Just discovered this thread now, amazing!!  A really really nice layout.  Love the street running, the industrial buildings made of plywood, your amazing painting skills, it's all so good.

There's a turnout in the street though on your street running, how did you embed it into the road?

Odd thing about the inclusion in MR is that they say that your layout is HO... and I knew I recognized the structure with its Lego roof adornments.

I noticed that, they called it HO even tho I clearly said N scale in the emails we exchanged. You can tell its N by the thickness of the plywood compared to the track width. I sent the photos in reference to an article a few months prior about building large structures with foam-board, thought I'd share my method for large structures. I never mentioned hiding staging tracks at all. They also spelled my name wrong twice.

That almost clearly shows how much disregard they have for N scale.  :RUEffinKiddingMe:

MRR doesn't think any other scale than HO exists so when they saw a layout so stunning they couldn't de-program them selves.

here's a photo of the turnout in the street:

I debated how to do it for awhile...trying to pave the points area was begging for trouble, so I was very reluctant to do so. I've also seen many photos of "street running" with a track down an unpaved center median, which I like, but I like the rails-in-the-pavement look better. so I combined the two.  Normal viewing is at a low angle, so it doesn't jump out at you, and it will look better with ballast. I plan to put a "keep- right" sign & striped trafffic sign in the appropriate place and a guardrail. I am going to fill in over the headblocks with painted styrene.

That looks super good and I think the ballasted median will be fine.  heck you could do the whole rest of it like that and only have paved bits at intersections.

I really really wanted to do some industrial street running on my layout but I just couldn't find a place to do it where it looked natural.  At first i thought you had a tram though!  I have a tram at least.

BNSF runs through downtown Fort Collins, CO with open track between curbs.  I'll post a pic here shortly.

So does CSX (former RF&P) in Ashland, Virginia.

Here's a cropped Fort Collins road shot:

Should be easy to duplicate the curbs and what not . . . .

The Nittany & Bald Eagle runs like that through Tyrone, PA, too, without curbs between street and track. It's visible on Google Street View.
