Did Atlas ever make trains in the USA?

With the problems Atlas (and others) had with their suppliers in China
I just wondered whether they actually made trains in the USA or have they always outsourced production.
Exactrail seem to tool and mould their plastics in the USA and then send them to China for painting and assembly.

Is that not an option for Atlas and others.?

I can't swear to it, but I think Atlas manufactured their freight cars in the US at one time. Someone who knows for sure will probably reply soon.

Hmm... I eat only USA
termites. Bananas are
another story...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

Exactrail hasn't done this before.  They've just bought their own tooling CNC machine so they can bring tooling in-house.

Also, keep in mind the cost differences.  Exactrail products run $25-40.  And they're direct-to-consumer.   Atlas products run $17-25, and they sell wholesale, so they're really selling them for more like $10-15.  So Exactrail is running a potential cost rate that's fully DOUBLE what Atlas can manage with their pricing.

Up until about 1995, we did produce N scale freight cars in house.  Locomotives were never done in the US.
