It appears that N&W B19 (1963) and B19a (1965) may match the MTL car:

B19: http://www.nwhs.org/archivesdb/detail2.php?ID=19530

In 1997: http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nw/nw050511aga.jpg

And the NKP cars too I guess.

Oh no .... correct ride height cars?!?! Does this mean reworking or replacing all my OTHER MTL cars, not to mention all other makers' cars, to get everybody to ride at the same height? (groan) .. ugrade from DC to DCC, from DCC to DCC sound, from Rapido/Other  to MTL couplers .... sometimes I think we don't need to keep refining and upgrading model railroad equipment. : :o :o :o

Jason:  I've seen similar cars with the trucks at the "normal" positions, and in-set like these.  So, yes, for some prototypes, this is correct.  For others, no.

The GN's 139000-139049 series looked very much like this, but they were built be AC&F in 1963.  So, this may have been a "common" design built by multiple companies.

Wardie:  These may have been used for auto parts on some roads, but the GN's hauled a lot of paper products.  They could be used for any relatively low density product, including furniture and appliances, light paper products (but probably not newsprint, which is a heavy load), and boxed cereals and other foods, that can be shipped in a common boxcar.  So, your industries could very well have a use for one, either inbound or outbound.

Hopefully we see this car without a roofwalk in the future.

For me... Ah yep.

I've earmarked 24 MTL 40' box cars that are getting pulled off the layout and sold due to their ride-height.  Too much grinding and stuff to make them more accurate.  As I get more accurate cars the MTL's will be replaced.  Already pulled one.

Is that a new coupler? I don't recall seeing that offset before on a MTL coupler (or am I just not paying enough attention). :?

Doors look very close to the N&W shot; do tell, why are they "funky" ?
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Yep.

Not a freight car guru, but these GTW cars look like the MTL car. If that is correct, than the new model is a PS design.

Nope. Same size/configuration, different builder. Ends, roof and side sill are different.

Those funky truck centers were the first thing that caught my eye, but it's good that they have now been confirmed to be prototypical.  Still way too modern for my tastes, but good for those who need them.

Missing the two inside reinforcements, middle where the two doors meet just looks funky (too thick)... like I said, hopefully a test shot issue.

The GN AC&F cars had a slightly different panel layout, with a funky foot-or-so wide mini panel between the normal-sized third and fourth panels.  I'm not sure if this was repeated in other AC&F cars for other roads, and it's different from the Atlas ACF car.  To do the GN cars a replacement brass car side and replacement doors for the Atlas ACF carbody might be a better option. I think they're the same plate size and roof and end design.

Looks like MT did a really great job on this.   Regrettably for me, it's not my era, I'm envious of the rest of you guys.  ;)
