New Micro Trains 60' Double Plug Door Box Car...

Joe DAmato from Micro Trains is in the Bay Area today and stopped in the shop this morning. He dropped off this pre-production sample of the new 60' DPD box car they are releasing soon. Nice looking car.
I really like the plastic see through roof walks. Very thin but stiff at the same time.  Lots better than etched metal in my mind because they won't warp. New 100 Ton trucks and body mounted couplers. Here are a few pictures.

Nice to see the bolster hole centered on the truck, which means they can be used for other applications.

Nice looking car, I wish I had a need for an auto-parts boxcar.

Nice looking car.  It will add variety to all those Atlas 60' cars I have.  I wonder if the running board is glued or has the usual holes.  I am hoping it is glued so removal is easy!  For the Conrail / Penn Central / New York Central modeler, it looks more like a 937B, which I feared.  I was hoping for a 938B since there are more photos out there.  Either way, I will be picking some up.  I hope the 100 ton trucks do eventually get produced with the offset bolsters too.  These can then be used on MTL's 100 ton three bay hoppers.  Thanks.

NKP for one (but not for long - they arrived shortly before the N&W merger).  Car # 83000 was new 11-63

Actually, most of the MTL models are designed for center-bolster-hole trucks, so you may be okay using these trucks on the 100-tonners.

What year did these bad boys hit the rails....?
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

The power of The Railwire. MTL making new cars with body mounted couplers and correct ride height. Watch out North Haverbrook!

Not a freight car guru, but these GTW cars look like the MTL car. If that is correct, than the new model is a PS design.

Roofwalk dates them to before 1973... I'd bet early to mid 60's.

I don't think truck mounted couplers would work on this style of boxcar!

I agree, thanks for fixing these long standing problems MTL 8)

Well I think I found the car and those truck centers look to be are correct.

I found examples of NYC and MP but could not find a picture online.  About the closest I got was this.

The 60 foot Greenville Boxcar came out in 1963.  July's 1984 Mainline Modeler had an article on the Greenville boxcars.  ML also had a two part series on 60 foot Auto boxcars in June and Sept 1997.  Plus RMC had one article in August 1976. --Brian
