I'm in for the entire roster of the Longview Portland & Northern! I think they had 3. San Francisco Belt RR also. Man, this could be a budget buster.   8)

I could go for a brace of two or three...definitely would like to get at least one for that eventual bigger layout down the road. Least we know it'll be great; never had an Atlas unit run crappy on me

I'll be in for just one PRR...
if i can get a straight answer as to whether or not this is actually being outfitted for sound capabilities.  :x

....so; if this locomotive doesn't have sound you won't purchase it.....really; how many n scale locomotives have you purchased with sound.....and for what price ?

The Alco S series switcher is one of the most anticipated locomotives in recent memory and to have Atlas soing it ( as well as Bachmann) is a bonus....let's not start dissing something because it may not have sound...."zonks"
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

The era-appropriate Chicago and New York ones should be easy . . . . .

Hell, your thinkiing Microtrains.  Atlas would never do that.

I myself have only purchased one loco... that was a used Kato SD70-MAC in Conrail with DCC, at the auction at Bedford in 2010, for $95.

My only other engines are: an Atlas NS MP15-DC with factory installed decoder (Lenz  :scared: ) which was an X-mas present in 2009, a trio of Kato SD40-2 in BN that were given to me by a friend since they were excess in his fleet, and a Graham Farish BR Class 04 that i got in 2010 as an X-mas present, paid $60 to have a decoder installed, and then found out the contacts were bad and the installer removed one of the wipers for some odd reason and he also lost one of the 4 screws that hold the body onto the chassis so he decided to exclude another of the screws and he didn't even think to file off some of the chassis when he saw that the body shell's two halves was separating since it was binding on the decoder wires, and which i finally managed to get new contacts and new screws for it.

I'm just saying that if it doesn't have the capabilities for sound, i'll just wait it out till i catch one when they're cheaper. Now if they will be made with sound capabilities i'll be liquidating some stuff in order to buy it. Thats my only point. I'm not dissing the loco.
I'm just stating the point that i won't be out and openly looking to buy one if it isn't exactly something that i want/need do-so for.

Yes, we are trying to match up the appropriate politician to the paint schemes & road numbers.  You figured it out.

See .. and you thought you would miss the atlas forum :)

Road
numbers 69 and 666 should be easy enough to find politicians to match...

No, this is all new tooling.  Nothing is reused from any earlier models.

Kind of a bummer......I want S-4s as well, but I don't want them to say Bachmann on the bottom :RUEffinKiddingMe:

Maybe you guys could tool up some S-4 sideframes as well, you know, after you bring this model to market.....I mean, if your already 90% there.....why not take the extra step? Tooling up a sideframe seems easier than tooling whole loco......

I am, of course, ignoring the other less noticeable differences between S-2s and S-4s.....

I prefer Atlas for the quality, parts availability, and you can dissasemble them if you like to paint your own, that other company love using glue, even on "undecs", if you can call them that :RUEffinKiddingMe:

The "speaker box" only sweetens the deal, IMHO, let's hope there is a sound decoder to go with it! :o

I am with you on this one, I HATE undecorateds/unlettereds that are GLUED together. I am fairly certain that next year we might see the S-4 from Atlas. I too will overlook the other minor differences and happily by an Atlas S-4. Lots of Maine Central branchlines saw single and paired S-4's as their Road power until the U18B's showed up and bumped the GP-7's to branchline service.

I suppose from reading this thread, I'm the only one whose Arnold S2 will soldier on, but only because it's in those special colours (orange and black) that make anything look better.

It sounded like a good idea at the time... too bad the caboose wasn't in on the plan.

Oh cool. A Barack Obama that looks like Robert West!  :D

Well, I'm in for C&O at least. Please do the Southern roads soon too! Can sell a bunch of those.

I have an Arnold S-2, it was old when I bought it in 1998 and like many other Arnold S units suffers from cracked gears. Given the amount of parts it needs, which at a minimum is gears, new more scale wheels, and to have the pilots rebuilt for MT couplers it has sat in its box for years now. I also made the mistake of painting it as an S-4. Someday I might strip and repaint it as an S-2 and park it outside the roundhouse as a static model, but for the time being I am eagerly awaiting the new model.

My Arnold S2 runs fine, but I had to go back to the old MiniTrix FM for the switching job.  The Arnold didn't like the vertical curve at the top of my coal company's steep track.  The model runs fine, but the trucks simply can't follow changes in grade due to the way the trucks pivot.

The secret is to install NorthWest Short Line replacement wheels.  That gets rid of the cracked gears and the deep flanges at the same time.

Great new locomotive ... thanks Atlas ...... (please bring back the forum) ...  gosh I wish we could see statistics regarding what they actually sell verses the number of "promises" in this thread.

There might be a correlation that would explain why it has been so long since we have sen a new locomotive from Atlas.
