Hello all...
Here are the pics of Atlas new S2 that were just posted to their FB page,
Respectfully,
Bruce

Actually, I'm not sure if these are 'pre-production' or final product pics...pewrhaps someone here could clarify...

Overall I like the look.  And if everything in grey is a separate casting, that will make the kitbashers happy (Paul/Cory - care to share?).  The hand rails look good too, even though they are a tad oversized they are smaller then I've seen in a long time.

Are the couplers body or frame mounted?  the gap below them suggests the latter to me.  It does look like a nice model, and some brass etched/wire handrails would be pretty easy to fashion for a finer scale look.

Those have to be body mounted because the end view shows no room for left and right swing on curves.  The Kato NW2 has the same gap below the couplers and they are body mounted.

These are the first test shots, there is definitely some tweaking that needs to be done.  For the most part, whatever is black in the photos is die cast, the gray parts are plastic.  The couplers are mounted to the frame.

Everybody talked about filling in the pilots of the Arnold S2, but in all the photos I saw the real pilots were open. Guess it just depends on the prototype.

That huge block in the middle of the cab is unfortunate, but, I'm sure, unavoidable to make a DCC ready powered locomotive and lights.  I can live with it, and it's not too noticeable in other angles.  Perhaps in black (even if this has to be done by the modeler, like darkening the visible frame of IM F-units through the portholes on the locomotive sides), this will be even less noticeable.  Overall, I'm pleased.  Kudos, Atlas.

Atlas is going to make more money on this diesel than any other diesel . Would be nice to have a transparency if Paul and Cory in that cab with a wide open big toothed grin . Very well done Atlas . Need some ( as many road numbers as you can pump out ) with " Road of the Streamliners / Serves all the West " , UP 1950's scheme .
