Any thoughts on making resin castings of those shells?  I'd love to have a set on my pike, but I've got so many other projects and demands on my time that BP-20's may never happen.

I thought of casting the second, but wasn't happy with way the first came out. I built the second and then revised the first based on that. Now I'm redoing #2 because the panel seams weren't straight.

The B unit is next. I have ends from other shells from an aborted previous attempt. The B should be MUCH easier. Only one unit of the A-B-A set is powered. The passenger trains aren't that heavy and it's unlikely I'll need the horsepower.

To answer your question directly I would like to make a few castings, but I have to be satisfied with the "prototype" first. They are far from perfect.

I also have to learn how to make castings    I have tried casting different shells in the past, but couldn't figure out how to make them hollow.

A thought occurs about the contours and stringers.  The stringers don't necessarily need to be staircases.  Instead, they could be simple risers.  For instance, take a piece of dowel and cut it to various lengths to raise each contour up to the proper height, then attach to the underside of each contour.  Upside down, something like this:



There's no automatic horizontal alignment like there would be with the staircases, but I think that's a more than equitable tradeoff for not having to custom cut each stringer.

Thanks Eric...Sometimes (most times?) I can't see things that are obvious to other people. I was playing around with the arch idea and it doesn't seem to work. I have some PVC pipe left, some precut to 2" lengths.  I could use that in place of dowels.
