Milwaukee Road Hiawatha Skydome Observation resin build.

How many Milwaukee Road fans here ?
I'm big on many R/R's, including the Milwaukee Road.
This is a cast resin Skydome rideing on a cut down Kato Observation chassie.
The passenger set I built and painted it for is Con-Cors Hiawatha pass collector set.
All other factory painted cars got some windows filed in the oval shape as well as port hole windows that the Milwaukee Road used.  The edges were then repainted.
Then all glass was lightly airbrushed inside with candy apple transparent green as to match the prototype.

Heres the complete Hiawatha set, including a GHQ Pewter F-7 Hudson which will be shown in the Show Your Steamer thread.

Nice work on the Stillman shell; you did an excellent job....I've done one of the Creek series in it's later day incarnation....CN

Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

FVM and the F-7, thats the rumor -------------------  ;)
I really love their 1935 set with the Atlantic.
Was wondering when I first got mine and extra two pass cars if it would pull them, no problem. Even added the new full baggage and she still pulls great.

I may be wrong but I don't think that the F-7 Hudsons ever pulled the Skydome Observation car. The F-7s were introduced in 1938 or 39 and the Skydomes came along in 1948-49. They do look great together so I say run them! Great job Ernie on the Skydome kit.

Best wishes, Dave

Never say never! There is a photo of a class F7 pulling the 1948 Hiawatha in Jim Scribbins book "The Hiawatha Story." It doesn't show the rear of the train but I'll have to assume (yes, I know what happens when you assume) a SKYTOP was bringing up the markers. So while not a regular happening it did happen.

Thanks Bill. That would have been a cool consist! My point was that IF a manufacturer were to produce a Hiawatha train set pulled by a F-7 Hudson, it would be unlikely to include a Skytop observation. Seems like there are at least 2 more Hiawathas that could be produced. A rib sided set pulled by the F-7 and a 1952 version with Skytop and Superdome. Either one would be cool.

Best wishes, Dave

Just curious, what did power the 48 'watha?
There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

E7's usually (but probably also the E6 and DL109 set) until the FP7's showed up. Erie builts were also common early on the Olympian. Later E9's and lastly FP45's. Of course these were all mixed freely together in weird and wonderful combinations by the 1960's

Ernie

It looks really great! I wish I could get my hands on one of those, buy I'd also need a bi-polar too, as I'd want to model the Olympian Hiawatha. I don't know what would be harder to get, though: a Bi-polar, or some of Life-Likes FM Erie-Builts (ultra rare!). I do already have a shell for an MILW S3 4-8-4 that needs a Bachmann chassis and lots of details.

It sounded like a good idea at the time... too bad the caboose wasn't in on the plan.
