Z Scale Flex Track

I've been working on two end loop modules so I can get trains up an running while I build a modular layout in Z.  I figure that since they arn't going to have scenery, that MTL flex track will suffice even with the large rail.

Now I know why no one builds expansive Z scale layouts.  The flex track situation sucks.

This MTL flex track comes in short 12.5" lengths.  Except it's not all flexible... if the entire piece is on a curve, you have to whack off an inch of ties at both ends because the end ties are locked in straight.  And to top it off, there's big donuts on four of the ties to allow track nails to be used.  So that's more ties to be removed.  It's almost useless.

So $50 worth of 11" pieces of flex track later, I have one 13.75" radius end loop.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that PECO does Z scale flex.I don't know the code but if I recall right it is 24" long.

You can search for my posts when MT flex first came out. It is a waste.

MTL flex does have its limitations. Although it has the classic Euro tie spacing problem, Peco flex is really your best alternative. (It's the only Z track that Peco makes, and I suspect it wasn't intended for Z scale, but for narrow-gauge N; I could be wrong on that.)

Well, I'll finish up the end loops with the the MTL stuff since I was planning on handlaying the modeled sections of the railroad anyway.  It's just frustrating that Z is so close to being a viable scale but is missing some very key components.  A decent piece of flex track would "lift all ships".

I hear you, I really do, and I'm preparing to do something about it.
