On a recent side trip to find a place to eat some Taco Bell in Castle Rock, I stumbled onto a siding for Acme Brick and was wondering what this building is used for.

From the equipmetn on the sides I'm guessing it's for drying the bricks.  Something like a kiln.

I wondered if I should have retyped what I wrote.

This building isn't part of the brick company (I don't think), it's some sort of track side structure for the RR (I presume).

It's the small structure just below center in this pic.

Looks like an optical communications repeater, there's probably a bundle of fiber optic cables running underground at the edge of the RoW.  Note the white posts and the orange marks indicating "don't dig here"...

There's a culvert I want to go back and take some pictures of.  Maybe I'll poke around and see if anything is written on the building.

Those are "package" style heat pumps mounted on the wall, with that much cooling ability, there must be a massive amount of electronics in that building

It's got it's own transformer, and a ton of cooling capacity.  I'm gonna go with the comment about something telecommunications based, for sure.  Without anything above-ground going to it, and from the appearance of the warning poles, it would seem something fiber-based.

If it's BNSF (based on the loco in the pic, appears it may be), and If I get a chance,  I'll look for the engineering drawings for that area if I can figure out where it is based off your Bing link

EDIT2: Take back first edit....found a building number....Looking further.  I can tell you that it's a building installed that has a fiber connection via a short stub (the 2 poles evident in your photo) to a Sprint Fiber-Optic line that runs along the west side of the ROW from Denver to El Paso.  So it's likely a repeater of some sort.  Trying to find out more on it via a number on the drawings.

Couldn't find anything specifically on what the building is for.  The drawing shows a contract number for it, but I doubt I'd find anything in the contract other than what's on the drawing anyway -- it's a 12'x110' building owned by Sprint that's connected directly to the fiber line.

The station name is simply Castle Rock.  BNSF Colorado Division, Pikes Peak subdivision, line segment 477, Milepost 31.2.  It's a #10 turnout to "Acme Brick Siding" that serves customer "Denver Brick".

You're right.  I'm sure what's denoted on the maps as a lease is probably for the land, not just the building.  They probably have the building, the area around the transformer, and some additional space.

If it was in Nevada I was going to guess that it was a trackside brothel! 
Those need a bunch of cooling as well. The real question is why you were in search of Taco Bell. I have had some really good Mexican food in Colorado.

I'm surprised that there's no generator there. Several years ago, I did the duct work installation for a cell phone repeater building near my hometown. There were 7 units on the roof, all in the 15+ ton cooling range (30, 000 BTU ). Beside the building was another, smaller one with a 1000 gallon fuel tank and a BIG generator powered by what looked like a 4 cylinder bulldozer engine.
