Heading to Anchorage and LHS to check out dream aisles, those are the
i wish I had aisles. Gonna snap a few shots in the heated double garage
of the area for the future 2x12' HO ARR APU Spur. Been working on
the ARR blog today as well. Armchair has so many arms.

I just got back from the Harrisburg area where i snapped up some photos of NKP 765. At the last stop of the day, Harris Tower, they finally sounded the Pennsy 3-chime as they were on their way back to Enola Yard.

As for modelling, i now have in my possession 3 handlaid #6 code 55 Nn3 turnouts (needing some filing of the points for them to be useable for operation). Of course i don't have any track gauges, PC or wood ties, and not to mention no tie underlays underlays for the turnouts, so perhaps in a year or so i might be able to get some and start a small portable layout.

A little more progress.  Continued updating a Kato GG1 from PC 4885 to CR 4885.  Added the leftover plating over the air intakes from the Pennsy broadband scheme, as well as the Conrail decals and NYC-style "F" on the front nose.  Only details left to add are a Sinclair antenna and a extra hatch on the side near the air intake.

The Athearn GSC flatcar originally was factory-decorated for Pennsy, but I discovered the lettering style and arrangement was wrong plus the paint was too thick and the color was off as well.  I stripped it, added the end sills, body-mounted MTL #1015 couplers, and created new decals using the actual Pennsy fonts.  I kept the Athearn style lettering on the dimi data.  This car will be fitted with one of the ESM/TRW laser-cut wood decks.

A bunch more details at Caliente:

And a slightly different angle; there's more to come in this area, including something completely different (for me, anyway...).

Lot's o' fab work on display this week!

I finally got around to building a shelf and valence for my daughter's and my "Alameda-Belt-in-a-Box" layout:

Not only is it nice to have it out, lit & able to run trains, but it also frees up room around the garage! [uh-oh...]

Right in time, too, as us Silicon Valley Free-moN dudes just decided to build another staging yard, though this one doubles as a return loop:

Only the main will be corked, while the outer two staging sidings will be lowered directly onto the ply.
I already built the #8 wye and one set of curved turnouts:

And will finish the other set of curved turnouts when Steve mails me the bag of PC board ties I forgot at his house [D'oh!].

Now we have two loops (one staging), a largish staging yard, and a bunch o' modules.
Hopefully all will be done for the GTE show in mid-Sept.!

Progress on the MNSE portable layout continues ..... FINALLY!!!

Sorry for the blurry photo,  I wanted to grab a shot of the group of buildings for the "City Area" on the layout.  Before, I primed them.
But, forgot to do so yesterday.

They are primed now.  And I hope to apply their first new coats of paint, this afternoon.

Trainfest is only 11 weeks away.. :o :o

Had a great day Saturday. Took my wife and 2 daughters to the Kirklees Light Railway that was having a Thomas day. The girls loved it until my youngest tried to run before she could walk and this ended with my wife in hospital with one broken ankle and the other sprained. She was crossing the track and trod on the track instead of the crossing and went over on her ankle. Thankfully she cushioned my daughters fall so she was fine.

On a modelling note i have a dilemma. Have spent the last 8 years accumulating stock for an unbuilt 2000's NS layout, possibly even Chicago suburbs as i love the Kato Metra set! However the only playing trains i have done is a HO scale CNW switching layout! So i am thinking combine the two and build a early 1980s CNW layout in N!

Given my track record of not building it might be just a pipe dream but the thought of long N SD40-2 hauled trains crossing the prairies does appeal. I blame the guys at Modutrak for being so inspirational!!!!
