Class 41

Minitrix

I don't know when I bought this one - maybe early 1990s - but at that time Minitrix started to go the Fleischmann route: tender drive and 'see through main frame'.

Class 05

Arnold

This one started as a cab forward and is a sister to the fastest steamer.
I hear the arguments coming...  :D

That's it. There are more but I won't bore you anymore.

Good assortment of engines there keeper !
Dosn't your Arnolds have the smoke units factory installed ?
I've got a couple but the smoke units are burned out.
A buddy of mines complete collection and layout is based on running the exact engines.

The S 3/6 has a factory installed smoke unit. I have two others with smoke units, a class 18 (a successor of the S 3/6) and class 41. The 05 doesn't have one. Did you know the smoke oil came in different fragrances? Weird....

Very nice German steam, and very valuable, too, apparently. I just noticed someone sold one of the Class 98 engines for over $300.

It sounded like a good idea at the time... too bad the caboose wasn't in on the plan.

This picture does not do the effect juctice... here is a pic of one of my FEF-3's with the TCS M1 decoder installed with firebox flicker  Also, TSU 750 HEAVY STEAM sound decoder is installed in the tender.  The sound is awesome.... I installed the decoder inside the speaker enclosure of MRC 16x30 Speaker, perfect fit great sound!!

Engineers and firemen brought their families out to see the new class of engines, called the FEF-1 just arriving in Cheyenne.

How about a K4 kitbash based on a Kato C55 chassis?

Another shot:

Let's look under the hood...we have a Faulhaber 1016 coreless motor with a 4:1 gearhead.  It also has ball bearings for really smooth running:

A view from above.  The worm was epoxied to the motor shaft.

Wow...these photos bring a big ol' smile to my face!  Very evocative and exactly what happened on the U.P. whenever new motive power was introduced!

Excellent!

Cheers!

Bob-
Your attention to detail sets an extremely high standard,  I don’t think all appreciate because they don’t know exactly what they are looking at.  Take for instance your Telegraph pole details and beautiful ballast work...Wow!    Basically, I really appreciate the complement!
I undertand you are seeing Otto soon, have fun!

U.P. ROCKS!

Here are couple more from me.

First is the 20th Century Ltd. NYC Dreyfuss Streamlined Hudson which IMO is the most elegant locomotive ever built (or at least in the top 3).

This is a brass model by Key Imports. I wish someone would come out with this loco and the entire 20th Century Ltd. train in plastic (N scale of course). Kato? FVM? Are you listening?  :D

Since non-US models are also fair game, here are some of European models. I took those photos for a writeup about the Dapol 0-6-0 Terrier loco few years ago. That is why that cute loco shows up in multiple photos.

Sorry about the diesels in the top row!
Next is Minitrix Der Adler 2-2-2 with the Terrier, Fleischmann German Cl 98 0-8-0Twith the Terrier and Minitirix Prussian Glass-box 0-4-0T with the terrier.

Here is Fleischmann Cl 70 2-4-0T and the Terrier, Prussian T1 0-6-0T with the Terrier and the Terrier with a (front of a) brass Big Boy from Sakatsu.
