I can't hold a candle to most of you in terms of steam modeling, but here's what I can add.  Great thread, SuperTurbine.

Stock Walthers 2-8-8-2 Santa Fe, lightly weathered:


Heavier weathering, notice the side-rods in this photo aren't weathered, the above photo they are weathered with NeoLube (looks better above!):


Jim Blattau ( see N Scale Railroading's Mar/April 2012 article on his layout "1947") has a custom-built Santa Fe 2-8-8-8-2 Triplex (a foobie loco, never
existed in real life, but this is exquisite).  The loco was custom-built for Jim by Hans Starmans of the Netherlands http://www.n-stars.com/


Finally, I did a photo treatise on the Key N scale Pennsylvania Q2 duplex drive 4-4-6-4 loco. 
While unweathered and too expensive for most of us, myself included, this is exquisite as well:

Beautiful work by all. The GN northern came out great Jason, and the FEF's are really fine too. But.......
Being of the Santa Fe all the Way lineage, I'll ALWAYS think that the two SF 3765 class beauties you made for me is your best work.

These are Gorgeous!...i'd love to know some more about how you came by these...Highly interested in acquiring a representative ATSF Northern!...are these based on any particular mechanism?...and how does one acquire one of these gorgeous shells?

Although I gather the price is probably out of my range, I am interested as well. 

I know SuperTurbine has built these for others, using the Kato Daylight 4-8-4 mechanism.

How close is the Kato Daylight 4-8-4 driver size, driver spacing, lead/trailing truck details/spacing, to the Santa Fe 4-8-4's?

Thanks to all of you for your contributions to the thread!  I love seeing steam and I am always impressed with the work!
I think I know the guy who did those old rusty castings... I think he post under Superturbine         Superturbine@hotmail.com

Castings go onto a Kato GS4 mech with milling to the frame and upper half of frame eliminated and replaced with much heaver tungsten.
These engines are missing a few details still... like ladders on the running gear, Ive been busy building other engines.

John- 80" drivers  and other details are close enough, the pilot truck is usually extended.  If you want to give a casting a try let me know.

Superturbine - your ATSF 4-8-4's are outstanding. Well done! I think I see that 2914 sits lower on the frame than 3772 (noticeable where the cab roof overhang is above the tender front.) Any particular reason for this?

On a related note, I've found that the extended stacks on my brass Northerns prevents them from entering my Walthers roundhouse. I can only back them in and even then I have the leave the front out in the open due to the stack height. Doesn't seem to be any easy solution as the stacks are evidently permanently soldered into the boiler.

They should look nice they have your detail kits all over them.  Turns out the cabs where at the exact same ride height, the 3772 short tender casting had slightly moved during 5 finger transfer.  BTW  I am determine to finish the Kato 2-10-2 frame, Iam working on building a full head of steam to finish the project.  My friend who does all of the 3d design work had brain surgery TODAY!  Pray for NICHOLAS RODNICKI for me.... Thanks

Nice work superturbine!  I saw some of it in on the Atlas forum.  It is nice to know that there is a Pollack doing some work behind the scenes.     Seriously though, I hope that his surgery goes well - you both do great work!
