All of  the BN's were gone by 1974, and I can't imagine the MILW using one in my part of Montana, but I will probably get an undec for the local coal company.  Their Arnold hates the vertical curve at the top of the transfer track, and the MiniTrix FM, while quite usable, does look its age.

The CPR had two lots of S2's, one built by Alco (7010 - 7069) and another lot built by MLW under licence. They also had MLW built s4's. The Atlas model should be close to the CPR Alco S2's but I don't think either the Atlas S2 or the Bachmann S4 will stand in for the MLW units without some work....but, I'm in for a few S2's and we'll see what we can do about modifying something for either of the MLW units.

It's great for all of us that Atlas is doing an N scale S-2.   

Just to whet all of our appetites, I am sure the modern 2012/2013-manufactured version by Atlas is going to
improve on the clunky handrails that the 20-year old Arnold S-2 had, here's a couple of pics of that Arnold classic that we'll be
comparing to the Atlas S-2 (this one below has the low-profile NWSL wheels installed to prevent that huge-flange look) :






We're all looking forward to the N scale Atlas S-2 with the associated traditional Atlas excellent running characteristics.

Ummm, are you sure about that?       They do have an S-3, but it currently has Blunt trucks, basically making it look like an S-1.......
The 958, 959, and 1008 are all S-1s.

Now we will need someone to make decals for "yellow end" PT switchers, as there are no yellow PT logos available yet.....

That's what i said!  I guess it depends on the era you would like to represent. If I were modeling the present, I would want to use an S-1 to model it, as the trucks are the major spotting feature between the S-1 and S-3.

I wonder if someone will make an S-1/3 shell that would fit this upcoming model, like ATLAS did some years ago in HO. I have heard that the S-1/3s are six inches shorter in length, but that would be hard to spot in N.....

Also, here's hoping that the VO-1000 sideframes will fit this new model, so I can make a poor mans S-4......unless the Bachmann S-4 runs better and comes in UNDECORATED........but I don't think undecorated translates into Chinese........

Well, I lived in Beijing for a year, and "undecorated" describes the soviet-era concrete apartment buildings I lived in pretty well. 
"Austere," "Bleak," and "Charming and Warm as a Parking Garage" are also apt adjectives.

Personally, I'm pulling for an early State Belt scheme, but I think both manufactuers would be seriously limiting their markets if they didn't offer undecorated versions.

Cory and Paul, if I may offer a suggestion.Do the Bachmann thing and offer these little beasties painted but unlettered.I think guys like me who model today would be more inclined to buy them and decal them (I would be good for 3  )
