Cory, Paul:

Look, I just ordered 33 of the second release of the trash flats. Combined with the 20 I have from the first run, I think that the decent thing to do would be to do the GP40-2W in N. I mean, come on...

Is it me or is everybody just overlooking Lee's comment to redo his layout into a switching layout?

I love you, Atlas.  :-X

Now you have to do Great Northern, ya hear? It's the law. And just so you know... I would prefer the Empire scheme. (As opposed to the SIMPLIFIED Empire scheme.)

Thank you for your support.

It was noted, and ignored.

S-2. S-4. Wow. What have we done to deserve this? Can't be clean living, that's for sure! I have a hunch I'll have more S-2's than -4's, and that's because Bachmann will likely only do one number in my RR. My workbench queue is far too long to buy multiples of yet something else that will need renumbering.

Not needed for my roster, but a very significant announcement in two respects:

1.  One of the most often-requested locomotives to be done, with many paint schemes possible.

2.  The first new locomotive from Atlas since the upheaval in China, which suggests that significant progress in re-establishing manufacturing sources has been made.

Congratulations Atlas on a very important announcement, and for all the hard work and perserverance over the past several years which has made a new locomotive possible.

Tim

Now the next two questions:

1) What is the price point?

2) What is the expected delivery date and will it be met?

I am hoping reasonable and on time!!!   :D

This is all very cool!

Although the SW1200's currently working Nelson yard on the C&W are beautiful little switchers performance wise, I can't wait to replace them with equivalently smooth-running but prototypically correct Alcos...

thx Atlas (and Bachmann)

Just a few questions...
1. Is this a new motor, or the Mashima thingy you guys used in the MP15.
2. Are these a new truck design? Will the trucks or sideframes work with the VO1000?

I can't wait for the Bay Colony unit. I remember when they cut it up right behind my employer back in 2004.

Not sure about redoing a layout, but ideas of the Tacoma Municipal Belt Railway are dancing through me head.

Questions on the DCC:

1.  Does this thing come with the decoder or does the user buy one and plug it into the socket?

2.  If it comes with the decoder, do we non-DCC users unplug it and operate the thing, or do we just operate it on DC and leave the decoder in place?

3.  My experience with Bachpersonn's on board decoders is mixed.  In some cases, the B-mann will operate just as well on DC with the decoder left in place as it does with it removed.  In some cases, the B-mann operates better on DC with the decoder removed.  If it happens that this one operates better without it, will the changeover to strictly DC be as simple as it is for the Bachmann?

Anyhow, this is excellent news and Atlas deserves an ovation.  I was going to purchase the Bachpersonn, but bitter experience with 44 tonner handrails suggests that disassembling the S-4 for painting for a non-historic will be difficult.  The disassembly of Atlas power has always been simple.  I expect that I will hold out for the Atlas.

Oh, and if you do the P&LE, please use a paint scheme that was actually on one of these things instead of a Howard Fogg scheme as B-mann is doing.  And no, use of these for post NYC boys would be historically incorrect, as P&LE got rid of most of their ALCos in 1966.  They never had the black with the huge yellow letters.

Great announcement, Atlas.
