I am working with jim, the boiler is an all new casting using his cab, dome and smoke box.  This is the master which is about to be cast.  As for the tender it will be all new.  I will be sending the mastes back to jim.  My plan is for all of the details installed to be included...preinstalled on the casting

Stiil working on my N&W SD45 Hi Nose conversion/kitbash...after soaking it in isopropanol I removed the rest of the paint with a slow rotating Dremel and a sharp blade, after all it looks okay because the body will be painted a solid black with white lettering...made some holes and installed grab irons on the back (or Front as N&W says), don't wonder about the small gap between the SD45 body and the SD35 cab..it is smaller than it looks like, now I'm waiting for some BLMA parts...

Hey,

For those of you who know me or are MNSE club members.  You better be sitting down for this…   
After years of saying NO.  I am saying, Yes!  I have added-on to the FCN.   

The addition is a 7-foot by 8-foot extension, off the northern end of the FCN mainline.
What I plan to model what was known as the Nekoosa Branch on the Milwaukee Road.  The CNW and SOO also had parallel tracks on this route.  Now, only the SOO / WC /now CN line remains at all.
Only two towns exist on this 8+ miles of tracks.  Port Edwards (Paper Mill and Chemical plant) and Nekoosa (Paper Mill).   At Port Edwards, only the Chemical plant remains.   At Nekoosa, the mill closed just a few years ago.

This addition to the FCN, will allow me to model the entire Group G family of Railways.  (FCN – Ford City Northern / FGEN –Fording & Eastern / EWNR – (Port) Edwards & Northern), in one form or another.
The modeled area will be EWNR territory from Wisconsin Rapids, south to it’s Southern end at Nekoosa.  (I will need to model part of the town – As all  of the structures have been dictated they must be painted “White” for years).  The servicable industies will be the Chemical plant (Port Edwards) and the Nekoosa mill, that has been “reopened” as a “Co-Generation” power plant.
The FGEN railway will be represented by a unit coat-train. Pulled by FGEN power (B30-7 and B36-7s).  That originates from a terminal located on the Mississippi, on the FGEN.  And serves the power plant at  Nekoosa.  The train will be a “run-though” across the FCN mainline.

Construction was easy.  I went from this (photo below) to…


This, in about four and half-hours.


Laying out the trackage will take a lot longer.   But, I have a general idea on what I need to do…

Not much modeling for me, but the other day the gypsum company delivered over 4000 lbs of drywall and other materials for my basement finishing project.  The drywall crew is set to start tomorrow, boy will I be glad when this little effort is done.

(BTW this is for living space, not any kind of layout room.)

Ed, you deserve a rest (if drywall can be considered as such) after that CNA car.

Lots of nice work here by many.  I've been fiddling with turnout and switch controls, nothing photogenic.  Off for vacation to BC this week, three weeks of hiking and boating!

Lots of great work going on. I managed to build 6 red caboose coil car kits, fix broken freight cars, and fix broken MT couplers. Everyone has had the MT's break to where you had to replace one part of the coupler,, usually the one with the glad hand.  I also managed to body mount couplers on some DI woodchip cars. I was wanting to use BLMA trucks,, but it makes the coupler to low by a hair.

Finally getting settled in my (new to me) home.

ACME Labs is almost ready to resume production and the Skunkwerks ready to continue working on steam projects.

Chuck Gieger -  The support brackets are made of the following...



Wall post = 2x2x 32in. which is attached to wall with (2) "Tapcon" concrete screws.
Horizontal bracket = (1) 1x3 and (1) 1x2 attached (nailed- *note DRILL pilot holes first, wood DOES crack!) together into a "inverted L" then cut to the length.  The length being the "Depth" of the layout at this point.
The Horizontal bracket is placed at a predetermined height (minus the thickness of the layout section - framework & deck) also I had to match the height of the rest of the layout.
Support Arm = (1) 1x2x 16in.  Which runs from the Wall post to the "side" of the Horizontal bracket.
Gusset = Angled cut plywood.  I make these by cutting (scrap in this case) plywood into 12in square.  Than make a diagonal cut, giving me (2) gussets.
1 3/4" drywall screws hold everything together.  (Again, DRILL pilot holes first!).

In the photo, I still need to add one more screw to the gussets....

While I have been working on my home N scale layout my main focus the last couple of weeks has been the Z layout.(Me and the Z are going to NTS next weekend )So here is one pic of what I have been mostly working on (watching paint and glue dry SUCKS!).
