Question - the profile says "1973 version". Are any of the released schemes good for 1973?

I'm going to guess that the "Trailer Train" yellow ones are 1973 as built. I hope the hitches are also as built (I model 1974).

The flats interest me as do the lights - the highway ones closely match some I need, but I can afford to do one at a time.

I'm hoping the hitches will be available separately as spare parts too!

I think the bases are supposed to be hidden when installed.

I took a double take at the price as well.  I think Atlas should post this pic on the main lamps page.

Not hard to see $27 there.

Jason

I agree---does someone think they can make them for less counting any time at all to do it?

Atlas obviously wanted to make them as robust and fool-proof as possible. However... I think they went a tad overboard. It can certainly be done for less, assuming one didn't mind getting rid of the thumbscrew nut and "self-leveling spacer" and all that other hardware... how about a pole with just a base and two wires; drill hole, insert wires in hole, apply a dab of glue. Done.

I think I just might put my ideas back on the list...

Which reminds me... the first one I was going to do was a utility-pole-mounted light. You know, the kind you see everywhere?

I would certainly encourage you to put your lights back on your to-do list.

Like many things in model railroading, the Atlas lights seem well-engineered but perhaps a bit more robust than needed.

David,

I would love to see you reconsider offering street lights because I am confident that you would produce a more  realistic looking product. It wouldn't have to light up. An N scale version of the Walthers acorn light would fill the bill for many.

Best wishes, Dave
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

That's precisely what I'm looking for, and it doesn't even need to light up.  If N-scale pigeons can be made, then these can be made.  Bring it on, DKS!

That's where I'm at Dave.  I think a lot of us do not want or need powered streetlights.

Ooooooookaaaaaay... I guess I'll allow that maybe the EWES's instant per diem pig flat fleet was more of a factor in the East. Rarities out West.

But nobody answered my question, lost in all the streetlight hubbub - which of the offered schemes on the flats are good for 1973?

Looks like the answer for 1973 is none, unless you model December.
