NSE Convention - Medford

Okay, I know the NSE Convention opened in Medford yesterday (Wednesday)...
And I know the Swap-O-Rama is normally Friday (tomorrow) morning and that there's no public show this year...

What I want to know is who from the Railwire is on-site to give us convention updates?
I'm sure Joe is there (after all, it's Medford - Home of MicroTrains), but who else?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I'm not there (no public show).  DKS and Chuck are there.

An update: FVM has pics of the first eight NS Heritage units on its Facebook page.  CR, SOU, PRR, CG, INT, LV, N&W, NKP.  LV will be offered in both paint schemes - the original retro scheme with the straight flag, and the final scheme with the slanted flag and visibility stripes.

Why no public show this year?

Am I correct in my id of the wagontop boxcars in B&O.  They are the long awaited second run from FVM, I hope.

The lights are purdy (!) but I'd kill for some scale modern crossing signals and scale 3 aspect hooded signals (BLMA are ya listening)

True.  Bet if Lee had some on his layout they would never work.  You know how he hates anything electric.

It baffles me that the NSE would not have a public show.  Is there any Ntrak representation, or are we just showing MT cars in there jewel cases?   NSE was on the right track in the past by teaming up with the ntrak conventions, and having 1 big N scale event a year. 

Sometimes I dont get it.  N scale is not SOOOOO big it can support multiple events each year an expect the manufactures in this economy to spend the cash to show up

If I remember correctly, there were conflicts with the dates at the venue.  So the convention is starting and ending earlier in the week than it normally does, eliminating the traditional Sunday public show.

The benefit of separate conventions is, with them usually occurring in different quadrants of the country, a larger consumer base is able to attend at least one of the venues.  The NSE usually has around 500 delegates and then whatever the public show brings, as well as a large manufacturer contingent, so normally it is worth attending.

Aaron, no need to worry about downsizing. The reason for a relatively small convention this year is the location. They brought convention back to  Medford to celebrate their anniversary and to be able to tour the Micro-Trains manufacturing facility. NSE has outgrown the hotel and convention halls around that area so they had to scale back on everything (including the public show). Next year I'm sure it'll be back to normal (much larger, full-blown) convention.

Also note that they are releasing all the physical and decorative variants on the waffle box right out of the chute.  Three Southern schemes.
