Walthers announces new PRR tower, problem is...

...it's HO. http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/933-2982.

Although there have been some really great specific towers produced in N in the past, a nice generic brick tower would be great to see. And msrp is reasonable.

Come on Walthers do this in N scale.  :D

I would love to see it in N scale, but it will never happen.  The N Scale Architect towers for AR, MG and Alto did not sell very well in N, and they were some of the most celebrated towers on the system.  I have AR and Alto, but have not built them.  Even though my time period (1984 Conrail) was mainly CTC, I want to incorporate the towers somehow.  Maybe one as a tower on borrowed time (with an Atlas signal shed next to it) and the other converted to a yard office.

Its pretty, and generic enough to be worth it in N scale. I say this has a shot.

I'd be interested in any new structure from Walthers, new, not recycled.

I’m not here to argue

+1 to seeing this in N scale.  Maybe one day it will come to us.  Unfortunately, by then I'll probably have filled my layout with N Scale Architect kits and Atlas towers.

I would bet it doesn't happen.  Walthers is going hardcore Pennsy in HO.  They've done a full Broadway, the RB50, B60b, N6 cabin, and a host of other things.  This is probably part of their HO Pennsy push.

I agree that this would do well in N. The problem with N is that there are very few generic towers and those that are available are small. The N scale architect towers were too unique and specific for anybody that wasn't modeling that particular tower to be interested.

I have a very basic PRR tower to model on my layout but there is nothing like it available so I am going to scratch build it using the vinyl cutter.

Some nondescript larger towers are needed.

If small enough, these sound like a job for shapeways.  If someone models it, any structure on any system could become available.  The surface imperfections may not be as disagreeable as on a locomotive, in fact in some cases the surface could be used to benefit- stucco comes to miind.  With some of the failrly thin cross sections, window framing and muttins may be possible.

Model, pay, print, (wait for shipping) paint, weather and plant...

Thinking of using this tower too. Can you tell me what scale this drawing is, or possibly how much I should reduce it .....Thanx....Mike

I could use one of these towers also.  About as generic a PRR tower I've seen but reminds me of many the PRR had.  The same tower would also be great with wooden sides.

The N Scale Architect towers for AR, MG and Alto did not sell very well in N, and they were some of the most celebrated towers on the system.

Jeff I am interested to hear why you think that they did not sell very well in N. I commissioned the MG and Alto tower kits, and Jerry B did the AR tower. Both MG and Alto tower kits sold out. I do now know about Jerry's AR as that was his baby.

Are you thinking of total sales? Both the Alto and MG tower kits were very limited edition with only one run, and that is how the run was designed because I did not want to see a bunch of them out there.

The same is with the new N Scale Architect B&m Johnsonville Tower, which is available in HO right now, and soon in N that you will be able to buy from Chuck at Feather River Trains.

Speaking of Johnsonville Tower, I wish that the Feather River Trains had some info about this offering on their website.  I found out about it on the N Scale Architect web page but no mention of it anywhere at Feather River Trains site.  I did email them and I got a vague reply as to when it'll be available. I really want one (assuming the price will be realistic) and I don't want to miss it but there is no way to even pre-order it.  :(  I also don't understand why N scale Architect will not sell this item directly. That would make things so much easier!
