Brian, Yes I agree the Pikestuff kits will come in handy when the time comes for building this facility. I suspect my shopping basket will have a few kits in it the next time I visit the LHS.  ;)

Gary, I think I have room to fit the structures in with a bit of selective compression (the Pikestuff kits seem to be a perfect size), although I may have to trim the back side of the warehouse to the far left. Regardless, I do plan on using the Mike Confalone technique a little farther up the mainline at another mineral processing facility. The entire facility, with the exception of the unloading shed, will be "modeled" using a backdrop photo. In fact, I need to get over to the prototype location to get some photos soon since I am modeling the summer season.

Wow, CSX thanks for the pics. Ive always wondered where Pikestuff got the idea for their buildings from, now I know.

After a long time away from the layout (the last construction update on my blog was 1/2/2012, one year ago tomorrow), I have decided to start work on the Etowah River bridge scene:

I'll be kitbashing the bridge from several Micro Engineering deck girder bridge kits and casting the piers and abutments using plaster poured into scratchbuilt molds. Lots of new challenges for me on this project over the coming weeks.

Great to see you back in the layout room. I hope we don't have to wait a year for an update on your blog.   :D

Nice work. I live in Rockmart, so I railfan that line occasionally.

Question - how did you do the pine trees?

Unfortunately Jamie passed away early last year. But there is a huge thread on trainboard featuring this layout and your answer may be in there.

It's sad to hear that he has passed on. This was some amazing work he did.

Thanks for the info about the Trainboard thread.
