I wonder just how wide that SW1500 hood will be.

Sickening isn't it?

N Scale needs the SW1500 and the manufacturers sit on it while Z  gets one and there's fewer  Z Scalers then  N Scalers.

Must be a red headed stepchild thing. :(

I'm still trying to comprehend Atlas's reason behind a 4-4-0.. :?

Wouldn't mind those spartan cab SD70s either...another model Kato could capitalize on (like more runs of the normal SD70M) but hasn't....

Just venting but... I hope the manufactures have something up their sleeves..

Z scale is getting SW1500s and an Athearn Genesis style release of GP7/9s.. and we're still rubbing sticks together with Kitbashed MP15s and 15 year old GP7s and 9s..  in this area.. :?

eahh.. oh well.. someday..  ~Ian in Iowa

I can understand the wishes for an SW1500.  But there is nothing wrong with the current Atlas GP7/GP9.  Better to wish the manufacturers devote precious resources on developing non-existent models than wishing for replacements of models that remain acceptable against current standards.

Agreed..Tooling funds should be used on a new model not updating the GP7/9 that isn't broke.

Then we have the Bachmann GP7 that would be a direct compititor against a high end GP7..What's to stop Bachmann from releasing a GP9 before the upgraded tooling is finish or the upgraded GP9 hits the shelves?

IMHO that would be a high risk adventure unlike a all new locomotive.

    • The N Scale Columbia and Western
An S2 or S4!

Maybe the third of fourth most popular North American locomotive of all time at 2300 units (behind the sd40-2 and GP7/9), used by "everyone"...and nearly 3x the number of sw1500s producted btw, but who's counting :) .

or fifth or sixth...   or fourth if you think these GE's all look alike.   :D

C44-9W            2310 (1797 on BNSF alone)
AC4400CW       2838 (1338 on UP alone)
GEVO(AC/DC)   4604

But I grant you that the S2/4 is the most abundant loco that is not currently available in N.

Right on all counts Gary!  I couldn't tell one of those GE toasters apart if my life depended on it.

If BLMA did an SW1500 to start, then followed up with an S1, S3, S2 and S4, they would have more sales than any other N scale producer in trhe last two years. As an added bonus, they can all share the same mechinism and the Alco series share a lot of the tooling.

I know this will seem like splitting hairs, and I don't want to appear argumentative because I am genuinely curious, but why suggest to a manufacturer that they do the SW1500 first?  I haven't been involved in these forums long enough to know if there has been a long-standing poll or something that found SW1500s were desired by modelers disproportionally more than the prototype usage, so I am curious as to why they should do the less numerous prototype over the more common prototype.
