Ian, it is single track, it was never double track. The main sections are set up to be double tracked, but never where. It was almost double tracked, but when the CV and GT did not bring together the plan for the SNE, the BM kept ot single track. Basically, the BM and CV used that line to Dole Junction then across the river again (the famous bridge that the pier subsided and leaned over) to East Northfield. The CV line from East Northfield to Brattleboro was the Southbound Main and the BM line in the New Hampshire side was the Northbound Main. This was a odd way to double track the line.

This is taken from the NH side, looking North.

Well I want to know why since Amtraks speeds are going to increase, why cant we run our trains at 55 instead of 40??

I was thinking of doing something like what David Popp did on his layout, but with only two spans.

Fuel savings.

Maybe but if they were that concerned about saving gas, they would fix all the temporarys. It takes much much more fuel to get 12,000 tons back up to 40 from 10, than it does keeping it at 55.

We're lucky it's 40!  If it wasn't for amtrak, it would all be 25 for sure.
