I'm on Chrome and it says "connection is secure" with a lock icon.

That's misleading. TRW is HTTPS:, so the containing forum page is "secure". My site is HTTP:, and recent browsers by default do not display non-secure content within a secure page.

I guess you're right. Just a few days ago they did? So the page I'm on is unsecure and Chrome is telling me it is.

If your using Chrome and can't see the picture, you probably need to go into the Site Settings and click 'Allow' for Insecure Content.

You can get to site settings by clicking the 'Not Secure' at the top of the page, go to Site Settings and scroll down to Insecure Content.

Chrome has a way of doing that when you least expect it.  The fix worked nicely.  Thanks @wcfn100.

Not much of an update after two months of nothing:

And at the moment it's just a dry fit.  :(

Short story is I screwed up the benchwork relative to the track plan and what was already committed with the scenery base, plus I couldn't quite wrap my head around the abutments placements. It took some creative destruction to make it work. With this mental block behind us, I can move on. The bridgework will be tacked down and track laid once the embankment on the right side is in position.

There has been other progress. Nothing worth pix, but the siding/yard lead into Yermo from Daggett is now fully functional and I can park trains off the main. Haven't done a lot of JFRTM, but at least it's possible with this addition. Roadbed is down in Kelso on the other side of this peninsula, and track is already laid for the connection to the backbone. Fingers are crossed that this Afton Canyon peninsula might see through trains sometime next month. Scenery... we'll talk about that later.  :|

LOL! I knew I'd draw you out with that shot!  :D

I do have a concern about that reverse which will have to be tested when track is down and before I start hacking at scenery fill. This was one of the sections foreshortened by the design changes from early this year. It was originally curve-transition-straight-transition-curve, and of course the straight section took the brunt of the pruning.

One thing that worked much better than expected was the cookie-cutter sub-roadbed, with a total of nearly 360° of sweep cut out as a single piece. The finished cut looked like a 6' tall question mark. It was just 2" shy of being the entire embankment between the bridges. What I'm really pleased about is having cut it out of a single 4x8 sheet of 2" foam is that the "scrap" isn't scrap at all. If contour planning has things going up from the sub-roadbed, there's a perfectly matched piece as a foundation, if I have to go down a little, like 1" as happens in a couple of spots, I have a template.

That could become a signature scene.  I’d guess that unless you’re loading those curves up with a lot of superelevation, trains will probably track fine through there.

Glad to see the progress,

Maybe very subtle SE - 0.010" at most.

It is a signature scene in my mind's eye, although it is possible that exact angle may not exist when terraforming is done. This POV might be roughly where the RR is hugging the south wall of the canyon, corresponding to the left side of the track. Some latitude there, obviously. Anyway, I'm still working on the terracing plan for the north wall and will likely not execute either until track and infrastructure is proven.

If that’s the case, then get a camera, some mirrors, and, “Down periscope!”  :D
