Binoculars. :D

Yes, probably not really suitable as places for train operators. I'm thinking maybe tower operator positions. I dunno, just a couple of seats to run or otherwise control trains when you're tired of standing. Mostly free-thinking here... long-term plan at best.

The train palace is looking good :o. The drywall is such a big step! I can't wait for the day to see some trains running.

I am stunned. Drywall finish guys showed-up this morning at 8:00, and left at 11:30. First coat on the entire room:

My expectation was only that they'd get enough done at the top so I could start with the ceiling grid. He had wanted to move the schedule two weeks away, and my response was "OK, no problem, but I will mud and tape at the top since I need to get the ceiling up." Apparently there's nothing like the threat of D-I-Y that motivates some of these guys. :|

... I can't wait for the day to see some trains running.

Me too! :D

Hiring out the drywall turned into a very wise move, cutting months off our schedule. We (...well, Robyn...) can paint at her leisure while I put the wraps on the ceiling work and lighting. Maybe two months to starting benchwork? Boggles the mind.

Yeah... and that was with losing 20 minutes replacing a panel after the lead guy ran the lift through it. I told him the brakes were slow to engage. [crunch] :D

What a great space.  The journey so far has bordered on epic- I can't wait to see the layout vision unfold.

Thanks, all!

Given the magnitude of the construction side of the project we're spent. So for the layout I've decided to forgo the technicalities, spread out a few rolls of WS grass mat on the floor, start snapping together a truckload of Bachmann E-Z Track and call 'er done.

And even when you run it off two dozen used Atlas train set power packs from the 1980's it will still be fantastic! :ashat:

More progress. This is this morning's view from the northeast corner. Significant is the temporary wall between the layout room and studio is removed, so now we have a better sense of the entire space. The guys sand the mud tomorrow.

I would cover that stuff in the middle of the room unless you want to find that dust for eternity.

Already been discussed with the crew. I'm more concerned with the studio.
