... Be sure to post the test photos of the DDA40Xs and GATX whales going through there.  Apparently, size matters to the UP.  Yowza! ...

Static test. Won't be live for at least a week; that 80' deck bridge is still pending.

Overdue for an update. Still working (albeit sporadically) on this scene:

The basic track shape with the subtle curves through the bridges was finished yesterday and the west approach is ready to be tacked down. This weekend's work is going to be the guardrails. I'm not that familiar with the style of guard termination, the rails meeting to a sharp point. Original thought was to use a FastTracks points tool and solder the ends together for the profile, the guards in a single contiguous piece. The   finally struck that this idea was going to be one big short circuit when things weren't absolutely perfect. Current thinking is do the points that way but gap roughly halfway through the transitions to the points. We'll see.

Once the guardrails are in place the entire track assembly is to be weathered, and then inserted into the bridges. That's going to be hairy.  :scared:

Just a few seconds ago:

"I hate to tell you this, dear..."

"Oh, you know I don't like it when you start a conversation that way!"

I hand her the picture. "I warned you last week that there was a lot of shrubbery in your future."

She laughs. "Can I use clumps [here, here and here]?"

"Whatever works!"

She's a doll.

Yes. @Ed Kapuscinski and I were sparring over whether I should do pre- or post-daylighting up-thread a while back. I won, but only because of Rule #1.  :D

Why model only one? With some planning and careful layering of your scenery construction you could make the top of the hill and tunnel portals removable. Put it on for older era sessions, remove the top of the hill for daylighted era runs.

It’s against my principles to daylight tunnels on a model railroad.

Says the man who has never had a major derailment in a tunnel he couldn't access. :)

Last post was in April. It's now June. Yeah, we have other projects going, but it's not like there has been zero progress on the layout. The mainline is complete through the Afton Canyon phase as of last weekend, so I thought the celebration of the golden rail joiner on this section would be a good opportunity to work on videography skills. Lots o' work on that front, obviously, but here's my ham-fisted attempt at trying to video a moving train through a frustratingly shallow depth-of-field by adjusting the focus remotely.

+1 for the soundtrack!   It's the first time I've come across a model train video with Bruckner's 8th symphony as the soundtrack.  It's my favorite Bruckner symphony.    I've got a bunch of recordings of it, but don't recognize yours. Which did you use?

Actually, it's the first time I've seen a model train video with any of Bruckner's symphonies as the soundtrack.

Yes, I'm a music nerd.

Well, I'm a bigger music nerd, bigger as in "tuba", among other instruments. Here are a couple of horns in the collection that shares space with the layout:

Good catch on the Bruckner, although this fanfare is some "stolen from" material - it's the intro fanfare to a British-style brass band piece, On the Shoulders of Giants. I have some Mahler in the can for when that scene is scenicked. You can pretty much count on my using obscure mostly brass numbers as backgrounds (like here). tho' I do have some big-band licks planned for passenger train clips.  :D
