Without revealing any trade secrets, could you comment on your process for adding the subtle color variations in the bricks? Very nicely done.

Best wishes, Dave
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

So much want. I'll take one if offered. It'd be great if a standard 50' boxcar would fit, but if not, I can certainly find other uses. Great work, Mr Smith!

Do you mean that the mortar lines are deep?  The face dimensions of the bricks look pretty good.

On past kits with deep mortar I've actually just used spackle for the mortar lines.  It will fill in the deep molded gaps and give you your mortar coloring at the same time.  I think that treatment will look better than the mortar colored wash on the samples.

Although I suppose it's a reasonable assumption, "mortar color wash" is incorrect.

Without revealing any trade secrets, could you comment on your process for adding the subtle color variations in the bricks? Very nicely done.

It's a byproduct of how I do the mortar. I first apply a thick layer of off-white acrylic craft paint, working it into all of the mortar lines with a stiff brush. I allow the paint to dry, then wipe it off the brick faces with a rag wet with alcohol. The color variations are a consequence of the wiping process, which I deliberately do somewhat inconsistently.

DKS, Do you have the 4th wall section available to show? As in the long tall side of building?

Regardless, I will be in for at least one.

Nice work!

That wall is actually not brick; it's corrugated fiberglass, which looks like painted corrugated metal siding. Also, that wall has no windows or doors, just a big air duct.

Thanks David! I will have to give that a try.

The thought crossed my mind, but that is a lot of laser time, and doing a second front wall wasn't anticipated--it was more or less forced upon me by the museum (because they want to install it on a layout running standard gauge rolling stock), and I was informed of this after I'd done the doors correctly.

That looks amazing.

What are the chances of selling modular "pre-fab" concrete walls:

Lots of warehouses and manufacturing built that way, especially in CA, where everything is made of mud/adobe/concrete.

Make those out of styrene .. scribe the lines ..

After I posted that I had a DUH moment.  Still not 100% on tackling a building from scratch yet.
Can't model worth a darn, but can research like an SOB.

that would actually be a good place to start .. nice straight lines - few windows - mostly modern ...  cut the styrene - a couple of openings for doors and docks .. glue to some foam core .. a few roof details ..  spray paint with some concrete paint .

As mentioned, not a deal breaker....

Not too many spots on the Ol' layout will have 360 degree viewing...

Let us know when they become available.

It will be fairly soon, as in the next 3-4 weeks.

Any idea of what the price will be?

I don't have an immediate need, but I sure would like to support the effort.
