Do you mean that the mortar lines are deep? The face dimensions of the bricks look pretty good.On past kits with deep mortar I've actually just used spackle for the mortar lines. It will fill in the deep molded gaps and give you your mortar coloring at the same time. I think that treatment will look better than the mortar colored wash on the samples.
Without revealing any trade secrets, could you comment on your process for adding the subtle color variations in the bricks? Very nicely done.
DKS, Do you have the 4th wall section available to show? As in the long tall side of building?
Although I suppose it's a reasonable assumption, "mortar color wash" is incorrect. It's a byproduct of how I do the mortar. I first apply a thick layer of off-white acrylic craft paint, working it into all of the mortar lines with a stiff brush. I allow the paint to dry, then wipe it off the brick faces with a rag wet with alcohol. The color variations are a consequence of the wiping process, which I deliberately do somewhat inconsistently.
Would you be willing to "foob" a brick wall for that as well???
That looks amazing. What are the chances of selling modular "pre-fab" concrete walls:http://www.sdi.ca/uploadedimages/buildings/burnsidebuilding.jpghttp://files.armtec.com/Images/Categories/buildings-and-garages/group-images/precast-concrete-walls.jpgLots of warehouses and manufacturing built that way, especially in CA, where everything is made of mud/adobe/concrete.
Make those out of styrene .. scribe the lines ..
After I posted that I had a DUH moment. Still not 100% on tackling a building from scratch yet.
That wall is actually not brick; it's corrugated fiberglass, which looks like painted corrugated metal siding. Also, that wall has no windows or doors, just a big air duct.
Let us know when they become available.
