So the steel door:  why does it look so good?  I noticed that the downspouts on the JayKay Z scale building look like separately attached pieces.  What are you doing?

David,

I would start by saying the the NJMoT made a wise choice in commissioning you to build this structure. It looks great, as usual. As for producing a "foobie", since most people won't be modeling the museum, the precise size of the door shouldn't be a deciding factor. A door that admits standard gauge equipment would be seem preferable.

I hope that this is start of a successful line of N scale structures! Put the N in NZT!

Best wishes, Dave

Thank you, Dave! It is the first of many planned N scale projects. Being a one-man shop, however, means the releases will not be rolling out on a weekly basis. As for the alternate door arrangement, that's precisely why I asked about potential interest, since I don't know too many modelers doing Nn3. Note, however, that the larger doors are only slightly larger; there is some standard gauge equipment that simply won't fit into the building.

Question about the bricks... they look kind of... thick?  Also, the hinges on the door are ginormous... does the door function?

"Thick" bricks? They happen to scale out to nearly exact proportions for typical bricks: 8" wide by ~2-1/2" tall. As for the door hinges, they are being downsized; this is a test casting that has some other flaws and this wall will be remastered. The door does not function, sorry to say.

So the steel door:  why does it look so good?  I noticed that the downspouts on the JayKay Z scale building look like separately attached pieces.  What are you doing?

I have no idea why the steel door would look any better or worse than anything else; it's a piece of Plexiglas that has been laser-etched to make the frame, tiny bits of brass wire added for hinges (I'll use smaller wire for the final master), and another bit of brass wire inserted into a hole to make the doorknob. All cast on.

The Z scale downspouts are simply pieces of brass wire glued to the lasered brick masters prior to casting.

Excellent work, I would definitely be interested, as is!  And with an alternate "foobie" standard gauge door front wall, even more so!

I would be in for a standard gauge one. Even the small one would be good for a warehouse.

Looks good to me. Maybe if the doors are ok for smaller standard gauge stuff I could use it as-is. I won't be running hi-cubes into it  :-X

Fantastic looking work David. I don’t have any immediate need (That’s my lazy ’don’t have a layout started yet’  fault) but really looking forward to more after seeing what you have shown.

That building would look great in any Eastern Road layout.

Question about the bricks... they look kind of... thick?
L

Do you mean that the mortar lines are deep?  The face dimensions of the bricks look pretty good.

On past kits with deep mortar I've actually just used spackle for the mortar lines.  It will fill in the deep molded gaps and give you your mortar coloring at the same time.  I think that treatment will look better than the mortar colored wash on the samples.

As usual, more work from David that has me re-thinking my whole layout plan so I can incoporate his latest release...stop the madness!!   Very cool and as well executed.  I'm down for one of these as well....I would make it into a series of flats for a nice long row of industiral looking alley ways.  No problem with the size of the roll up doors or bricks...it'll be a prized focal point for sure!

Thanks again David!

I'm sure getting one.  Will use in a warehousle/industrial setting as I don't need an enginehouse.  Great work there David.

David,
its a great kit, and I each the request for the doors as separate detail items - I could use about two dozen right now.

that said, I probably won't buy this kit, as it's too Northeastern for me.  I can, and have, adapted a lot of stuff to look like the deep south, but this one is just not lending itself to that approach.  Were I doing sugar plantation railroads in Nn3 that would be a different story.

That looks amazing.

What are the chances of selling modular "pre-fab" concrete walls:

http://files.armtec.com/Images/Categories/buildings-and-garages/group-images/precast-concrete-walls.jpg

Lots of warehouses and manufacturing built that way, especially in CA, where everything is made of mud/adobe/concrete.
Can't model worth a darn, but can research like an SOB.
