Tarped Bulkhead Flatcars

Here is a puzzler.  I happen to get these email "tender offers" from CPR, which tend to be interesting. This is odd though. 35 CP bulkhead flats for sale - with a wooden frame structure on them - covered in plastic and "contaminated with bird feces".  See the link and photos. WTH??  Chicken transport???  Angry Birds related????  ????

Interesting cars.

"Inspection recommended":  hmm...  I suspect fowl play.

Canadian's version of the Fema death camp cars!
(I guess the open auto racks don't work up north)

Lol...

(in case you're not up on the current whack job conspiracies, here's what I'm talking about: http://pimpinturtle.com/2008/02/01/fema-ordered-102000-boxcars-with-shackles.aspx. You know these guys are serious because they use bold and all-caps)

I was going to mention the FEMA death trains, but I was afraid I might be tarred and FEATHERED!

They have a phone number for their agent in Saskatchewan. Maybe give him a call? Given the amount of feathers and crap, is it possible that these things were used for chicken storage or transport? Doesn't seem likely in either the US or Canada. I can see why they want to sell them.

Best wishes, Dave

Chicken transport?  Keeps them off the streets.

I dream of a better world where chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned.

Probably didn't actually move chickens, though I guess it's possible.  But pigeons love railyards (lots of spilled grain), and many abandoned buildings end up looking pretty similar after a few years of dis-use if the birds find a way into them.  I wouldn't be surprised if they just happened to find a way into the cars and made themselves some really nice coops.

I bet you're right, the cars seemed to have been stored around grain shipping areas, they probably were tarped for some purpose and then forgotten for a few months/years and boom!

Believe these were actually used for shipping wood pulp. They've probably been sitting for a while and become home to a colony of birds.
