I took advantage of the nice weather to do some outdoor carpentry and get started on the fascia. Details here: http://www.p4500.blogspot.com/2012/03/layout-update-25-we-actually-do-need.html.

The second shelf bracket is unnecessarily redundant.  You should just think about support, not actually build it.  That's what they EXPECT you to do...

Why I oughta....

I like it Dave!

Hey Tim, that turned out really well!  Thanks for posting the photos.  This also reminds me that I need to send you the CAD file for the pockets so you can try out some mods.  I just need to remember which file is the most current version.    :P

Dave, nice to see a new pike taking shape.  If you're like me, having your own layout space should give you that warm, fuzzy feeling.  By the way, it's overkill to use armor cable for your bus wires.

A bit more benchwork progress on Tehachapi: got the subroadbed and cork permanently installed on another section of the top deck:

The Monolith cement plant will loom on the far shelf and the run down the east slope is seen in the foreground.  Can't wait to populate this with a bunch of dusty cement hoppers!

Made some more progress since the first post on Saturday.  Still have a little more sanding to do while I'm waiting for the mailman to hurry up and deliver the BLMA walkways...

Frame, post chop...

I've never met a covered hopper I didn't like.... :)

In between dope smacking Ed and poking my fingers into Tom's eyes, I worked a little more on the Cumberland Station.  I'm really enjoying this project...

Finished installing the basement and exterior lights, added the brick platform, and built up the main roof.  More comments in the Engineering reports.

Lee,
That is an impressive station. What did the walls originally begin life as? I don't recognize any piece of the building as part of something else.

I have always liked the notched nose slugs that PC did... both the 4- and 6-axle units.  Glad to know that they are still around, under CSXT and NS ownership as well as some shortlines (the B-B slugs)... if I were modeling something a bit more modern of an era these would be something I would be looking seriously at.  But then, I would also be looking at a variety of rebuilds as well.

Lee, I have been following your progress and I have to say this is an amazing model.  I am impressed with the outcome and can't wait to see the finished scene.

Tony,
The only commercial items in this model are as follows:
White metal doors in the platform vestibule and the south end of the building.
white metal staircase from the platform down to the baggage room (you can't see that unless you're really looking for it)
two Gloor Craft double hung windows on the angled portion of the bay window.  (The wide one on the front is scratched out of Evergreen stock)
A yet to be installed white metal flagpole above the cornice on the north side.
I used a handful of gloor craft windows and doors on the interior work, as well as some odds and ends like stair railings etc.

All of the walls, cornices, platform and roof is scratched out of Evergreen and Plastruct.  The windows and odd doors are being done by Zox on his Silhouette cutter.

Nice job Lee. Too bad they messed with the lines of the building with the entryway addition. It does add some character, but it certainly and grittiness, isn't what they teach in architecture school.

Best wishes, Dave

Kinda like this...?

BTW, this is the 87th banner I've done for Railwire.
