Just havin fun with trains.....nothing new to show.....here's another view of the plywood sheathed van



and this was snapped and "shopped" while running a lash up of geeps....

Still working on the Kootenay River scene.  Made up and put in about 100 trees, built the retaining wall at the West end of Nelson yard, glued the bridges and track in place, and started ballasting the track.

Oh, and Gary H, you will be happy to know that I *did* put in an osprey nest on the North East corner of the truss bridge.



(I "painted" in some background over unfinished scenery in this one)










Next up: yet more trees, finish ballasting and replace the line poles...but it may be a few weeks for all this as work and family obligations have ramped back up.

Built some new and improved Shapeways Nn3 tippers:



That is a single Z scale bettendorf truck under there with the side frame removed. Also got a tungsten slug for the 0-4-0.

Built some new and improved Shapeways Nn3 tippers:

Is the surface texture on your model a regular feature of Shapeways products?  I wonder if needed, could it could be removed with sandblasting?

Everything I've had that was Rapid prototyped was like this (except for Mark4 stuff)

But to be fair I could barely see it without a photo, the thing is only 19mm long.

I have a Shapeways Z scale B&O round top boxcar that looks the same way, but in the case of the boxcar it looks like crap on such a large area. This is why I think we have another 20 years before RP stuff will look great.

Another week, some more engines.  I got the long hoods from Mark 4 Design and set to work on this pair of Conrail SD38's.  Anyone know a good way to chop down some RS-11's to make a pair of MT-4's?  That is my next project.

Also had someone ask me to do a BNSF SD70ACe in the Heritage 2 scheme instead of the Swoosh.

Boy, we're off to a fast start this weekend!  I love the dark and stormy night Pudd. 

My brother-in-law lives about 5 km from the Kootenay River scene that Mark is working on, so I can vouch for the fact that he's nailing it.  Great to hear you got the Osprey nest included!  Now you need to do Taghum Beach on your swing gate, complete with dogs and pot smokers.   

My 'modeling' these days is nothing but carpentry (but still fun!):  I built and installed about half of the remaining upper level benchwork for Tehachapi BC: (the two shelf legs sticking up are temporary, and the roadbed is just resting in place)



Summit crosses the doorway at an elevation of 66" above the floor (upper right) making for a relatively painless nod-under entrance.  From there the line descends the east slope, passing the site of the Monolith cement plant (far wall), then turning the corner to descend the east slope in what will be a very simple, and hopefully somewhat expansive, desert scene.  Here's a shot of a pair of ACe's switching the cement plant-to-be.

Here's a shot of the Silver Streak Zephyr on the ModuTrak layout. All the cars are from the first Kato release of corrugated passenger cars. Your on your own for the E-5 though.

If you have free time, could I suggest resetting up this shot and lowering the light on the train to give more of a silhouette effect?  Think backlighting by the full moon.  It might make a cool shot even better!  Oh, and don't forget the headlight.

Finally did some modeling... I started to add scenery to a little extension of my shelf layout.  I didn't have enough room for switching so I added another foot or so.



I also started placing more background flats.
