I rearranged a few of the tiles to reduce the repeating pattern. When I did the streetcar track pavers, I applied the decal on top of medium gray paint. There's a reasonable amount of clear space on the decal (between the dots from the laser printer), so the decal really just adds some texture to the background color. If the background is too dark, you won't see any decal, but if it's too light, it will look like laser printer dot graphics.

Can you post the original file.  Maybe I can do something with it.

Jason

Thanks! I don't have it, but I think @Lemosteam does!

While y'all have been working on the roof tiles, I'm trying to get the project along far enough that it will actually need the roofing material.  Tonight, I got some of the "rafters" installed.  As you can see, the major supports are in, but I still need to calculate and install the hip supports (i.e., the corner rafters), which are complicated by multiple roof pitches.  I also need to build the roof supports for the dormer.  But, good progress today.

Measure the horizontal (orange) lines of each plane, and trim them to the corners.  Cut the hip rafters after you've established the roof planes.  Should be pretty easy.

Unless I'm completely misunderstanding the geometry here, the corner rafters should be the same basic shape as the end rafters. They should be exactly the same in the vertical dimension, and stretched by a factor of 1.414 (the square root of 2) in the horizontal dimension.

(Edit: this assumes that the roof is at the same pitches on the sides and the ends. If not, the stretch factor changes somewhat, but you can still calculate it with the Pythagorean Theorem. The bottom edge is the square root of the sum of the squares of the bottom edges of the side and end rafters, and you can calculate the distance from the long edge to the intermediate inflection point in the same way, using the related measurements from the side and end profiles. The vertical dimension is still exactly the same.)

There you go using math again! :?

I'm an old carpenter, man.  You hold up the board and you mark it!  Ain't nobody got time for them slide rules...

Forget math- this is simple geometry.  Think of it this way, from the plan view (upper right quadrant in the image below), the line from the corner to the peak will always be 45 degrees, UNLESS the pitches are different.  And the way Dave has his "rafters" they must be eqidistant from the corners to have the roof pitches identical at that plan view 45 degrees (it looks like that is what he has done).

Dave, I feel your pain. Once you get the main roof figured out, then you have to build a miniature version of it for the dormer.

Alright, I admit it.  I used Lee's method (which is the way that I learned carpentry) and just held a "board" up and marked it.  The hip rafters are done:

The dormer is next.

Foremost, sorry @davefoxx for this...

Worst troll ever.  Pretty sure I don't need a calculator to draw a straight line, circle or a point. @chicken45 or the egg first...

Okay, I lied.  I moved on and completed two pieces of roof sheathing before starting the dormer.  I decided that it would be easier to build the dormer over the main roof rather than the other way around.  I also chose to replicate the curved roof of the more modern incarnation, so I sheathed the roof in 0.010" styrene.
