It is the same use as the strainer. I found some vintage tin powdered sugar shaker on e-bay. Like a big salt shaker. I ended up drilling some of the holes bigger.

Peter,
I ordered the Original GrassTech for $34.95 plus shipping ($40.90 total) from Grass Tech USA.

I ordered one of their bundles a couple of years ago right before they came out with their new "Rocket" model at a clearance deal.
Both units work great, just need to keep fresh batteries in them.

I built the Grassinator based on instructions from John Cubbin at Z Trains.  I think I've got $27 in it but it's likely closer in form and function to the Noch unit.

Wow, that was fast!  I received the GrassTech in the mail today.  It's significantly larger than I expected, which is a good thing.  Yet another reason I don't need the Noch monster flocker.  Unfortunately, though, my order for static grass from MBK won't get here until tomorrow or Friday.  Too bad, because I'm really looking forward to using this thing.

The GrassTech works really well.  The jury's still out on my grass color, though (I mixed WS light and medium green static grasses).  It's all still sopping wet, so I should probably wait to see what the color looks like after it dries.  It sucks to be colorblind.

The color doesn't look so bad this morning as the Scenic Cement is drying.  I'll need to do some work on that striking contrast of the foliage in the ditches.

What's your mix ratio? If you go 2/3 medium green to 1/3 light green you might get what you are looking for. Heck, go back and hit the current stuff with some straight medium green.

Great idea, Philip!  That confirms my thoughts on the color.  Thanks!

Dave, looks good enough I ordered one and some Silfor SG to go with it.

I would look at adding some browns, and maybe in linger lengths in the ditch or along the edges. Drainage areas do have sharp color contrasts, but the length of vegetation gradually drops off furthER away from the moisture.
