Nice expansion Dave, I knew that water heater space was not safe!  I think Chris' idea is even better.  I don't regret doing a similar kind of thing in my space.

Trees are a nightmare.  I have been making them out of wire for almost a year and have hit about 350.  I figure I'll need to double that to make things presentable.  I take my armature winding kit on trips and do it in hotel rooms at night....  I will be certifiable by the end, no doubt.

Hey Dave need some spackle help...

I'm trying to apply spackle to the foam in small places between tracks, and it's not sticking to the foam very well. Do you do anything to the spackle before you apply it?

Add water to thin it out any?

No, I haven't tried to add water, but take a small amount and see what happens.  I'll admit that the spackling doesn't always seem to stick to foam at first, but if you just keep working it, it will begin to stick.  It's almost as if you have to work or mash it in, which then provides a tooth for it to stick better.  Roughing up the foam with some 40 or 80 grit sandpaper doesn't hurt, either.  You might also try masking off the track, so you can get in there a little more aggressively with your spackling applicator.

Lightweight spackle works much better with foam.
No need to add water (unless you want to "pour" some foamy concrete), but squirting a little craft paint into a bowl with some lightweight & mixing helps both tint/rid the white & creates a goo that's easier to spread on foam.
