Since we clearly have derailed this thread, I'll add that I prefer "side boob."

Someone needs to have a small store in a non-descript downtown called Nut Sack to redeem this thread.

Related to my other hobby, there's a line of disc golf bags made that are called Nutsacs.  :ashat:

At least now it has a name... :D

I'm with Lee. Call it the goiter. And find a way to include that pic.

Geez, that'll do.   In the interest of getting this thread back on topic, here's an A&R local en route to Aberdeen with loads of wood chips for interchange to the SBD:

Nice! All you need is an RC Cola (or a Cheerwine) and a pickled pig's foot and you're set...

Dave,
I'm still a little perplexed with the new addition. Now if you were planning on running several Southern Railway trains onto the layout per operating session the added space and return loop is a valid idea. On the WVC&P we have a B&O local that interchanges with the WVC&P once per operating session. The B&O train appears at Oakland Jct. runs into the yard at Asher Glade, swaps cars then backs to Oakland Jct. The B&O local is equipped with a caboose, so a long backup move is valid. In know in the long run it's your layout but, I'm still wondering is the added bench work and required auto-reverse unit worth it for just one train? Are you planning on adding scenery to the Southern Railway staging blob?

Rich,

I decided to build it, which didn't cost much money in materials, because I didn't want to 0-5-0 the Southern local anymore inside the "cassette."  It not only killed the feeling of it leaving Aberdeen when I parked the train just beyond the A&R enginehouse, but it required unnecessary handling of my rolling stock, unless I wanted to back into or out of Aberdeen.  I don't want to continue to do that.  Additionally, each time that I 0-5-0ed the SOU B23-7, I was afraid that I would drop it to the concrete floor.

With the extension, I figure that I can now run the train off the layout and into staging.  Yeah, it's not much more of a run, but at least I can run more than a three or four car train without the tail end still sitting there next to the A&R enginehouse.  And, except for throwing the turnout, I don't have to think about reverse loop short circuits with the auto-reverser.  Despite M.C.'s suggestion upthread, I decided to risk it and went the el cheapo route by getting a Digitrax AR1.  I don't need anymore auto-reversers, so the PM42 is overkill, and the cost of the PSX-AR is almost three times the price of the AR1.  M.C. might be right, if the AR1 turns out to be unreliable, but it's a small, uncomplicated loop that, I hope, will easily be handled by it.

I think I'm going to do enough basic scenery just to disguise the loop, so, from the operator's perception from Aberdeen, the Southern local actually leaves Aberdeen and, for the most part, disappears behind a tree-covered bluff.

Dave, You can go really el-cheapo and just wire up a double pole double throw switch toggle switch to reverse the polarity of the reverse loop. Since the reverse loop is staging you really don't need a auto-reverse. Food for thought  ;)

Yeah, John suggested that, but I prefer avoiding a short circuit with the idiot-proof auto-reverser.  For this same reason, I splurged and went with Hex Frog Juicers to power the frogs of my turnouts.  This way, if I run through a turnout from the wrong direction or circumnavigate the loop without paying attention to where the train is, I won't cause a short.  I like not having to think about it and just run trains.  This will be easier for guests to understand when they operate a train, and my decoders will thank me.
