DFF-

Good to see you again, and many thanks for hosting! I am quite impressed with your track work. Three hours of nearly flawless running is something to be proud of. It was really fun to see the layout in person!

I worked on another block of buildings for Aberdeen.  This required some grading to create a subfoundation for the buildings.  I also did some sidewalk work.  I'll level the buildings as I fabricate their individual foundations.  For now they are only roughed into place.  I'm pleased with how I was able to build the sidewalk crossing over the A&R mainline:

I've been working on sidewalks this weekend and almost have the large black sheet of styrene that is the street under the far side of the tracks ready to permanently glue down.  I also finished the sidewalks across the A&R mainline.  I went back and redid the sidewalk on the right side after I learned how to fit the sidewalk against the wood crossing timbers on the left side.  No more awkward-looking jog away from the road.  If you compare the following picture to one upthread on this page, you'll see what I mean.

Once I build the parking lot around the future passenger station, then I can finish the sidewalk across from the row of stores at left.

Thanks, Chris.  It was your sidewalks and streets on the Other Industrial Layout that really inspired me to finally have a go at it.  Now, I need you to go back to your layout and show me how to choose the right paint colors and bring all the details and finishing together to complete it.   ;)

No significant modeling time lately, so I took a quick video this morning, hoping it will cause some motivation to get back to working on the railroad.  "Here comes the Seaboard local!"

Bryan and Ed,

Thank you for your kind words.  Perhaps I'm being too critical of my work, but it's tough not to compare it to the phenomenal work I see here regularly on TRW.  I probably won't repaint that section of road, but I will try different color(s) on the road through town on the other side of the layout for variety.  The paint in the picture above is just primer, as suggested by DKS.  I did apply Dullcote after applying the lines to seal the surface.

I think my biggest concern is finding a good color for the concrete sidewalks I need to paint in Aberdeen.  I also need more practice with the colored pencils I'm using for marking the traffic lines.  Oh, and I need to add RR X-ing markings.  Are decals or dry transfers available?

Stop being so hard on yourself, sir. You are way ahead of the curve.

Sidewalks come in a riot of colors, so you can get creative. Indeed, painting the occasional individual section a different color adds realism, since sidewalks are often repaired bit by bit.

For RR X-ing marks, there's an etched brass stencil available (can't recall who sells it--anyone else know?) that you can just tape down and hit with spray.
