I received my BLI Atlantic Coast Line E6A and E6B this evening.  I spent some time adjusting CVs to set the horn, bell, and master volume on the E6A, not to mention that I replaced that the one wheelset that has traction tires with Kato wheels to get the locomotive to run better.  I've got more Kato wheelsets on order, so I'll be able to replace the rest of the wheels on my E6A and E7A in the near ...

Wait, what? The Kato wheels fit BLI E units? Which Kato wheels? Did I miss a thread somewhere? :facepalm:

Nice Train @davefoxx - though the 1970's Impala in the parking lot is a bit out of place. :facepalm:

Haha!   Yeah, I caught that about the time that I uploaded the picture.  It was getting late, and I was too lazy to reshoot the picture.  Truthfully, the entire propane dealer is probably an anachronism for 1957-58, so I let it go.  Good eye!

Right, I remember now, thanks.
So did you change all the wheels or just the TT axle? Assume all?

@Cajonpassfan,

Well, the plan was to replace them all.  But, yesterday, when I received my order of new Kato wheelsets and did so, I noticed the locomotive's mechanism was louder.  I wasn't satisfied, so I went back to the BLI wheelsets and replaced the traction-tire set with regular BLI wheels that I scavenged from the dummy E6B.  I attribute this failed experiment to the longer axle points on the Kato wheels.  I was hoping to cheat it, because the finer flanges allowed me to narrow the gauge a smidgeon.  But, I can't live with the louder mechanism and was concerned about the extra friction on the driveline.

This takes the E6B out of commission, but I didn't plan to use it anyway.  I really just wanted the E6A when I bought the set and was unable to buy just an E6A in this paint scheme.  But, an email to BLI should get two new axles (I fixed my E7A, too), in case I ever decide to use the B unit.  You live, you learn.

I'm having fun running my alternate era of 1958 on this my first day of a four-day Christmas break.  But, uh oh!  The northbound Atlantic Coast Line's crack passenger train, the Champion, with E7A No. 524 and E6A No. 505 on the point, is being held up by a late freight train headed up by a pair of F2s.  Heads are going to roll somewhere!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!  It is December 23rd.  Perfect!

Another Festivus miracle would be for MTL to announce some heavyweight passenger cars decorated for the ACL.

Holy crap, that worked!  Several pages back in this thread, you may recall that I bought a kit from Shapeways to build an ACL M-5 caboose.  Well, I needed to clean the FXD, but I never bought any Bestine, which, apparently, is now unavailable.

At the local A.C. Moore store, I found something called Motsenbocker's Lift Off, which is a crayon and wax remover.  I figured what the heck.  I already had a BQ23-7 cab in FUD that I bought a few years ago that I never did anything with, so into the Motsenbocker's Lift Off it went as a test.

I planned to let it soak for a day or so, but I forgot it about it for four days.  Last night, when I took it out, washed it, and dried it, the shell was still mostly clear.  But, I noticed there were white spots in the crevices.  So, I put it back on the workbench and even considered tossing it back into the bath.  When I went back in tonight, it was white!  That stuff worked!  By the way, I've heard people use Goo Gone for washing FUD/FXD.  This stuff's smell does remind me of Goo Gone.

So, into the bath went my ACL caboose tonight!  Oh, and I made the decision of which road to decorate it (ACL, SCL, or SBD).  I decided that I needed an ACL caboose to go with my ACL motive power.  So, I found and bought some Microscale ACL decals this week.  :)

So, as noted in the previous post, the caboose will be finished like this:

And, I think I have everything, except for the orange paint.  I'm going to need some help there (and it will have to be out of a spray can).  I already bought Atlas caboose trucks (not perfect, but they'll do for now), kingpins for the trucks, wheelsets, couplers, and decals.
