I think it looks great the way it is, but if you're worried about the end caps, you might want to apply a strip of gray decal trimfilm and then put the end cap layer on top of that (i.e., adding this all on top of the existing end caps.

Done!  I quit.  The decaling, that is.  That was not fun.  I still have to Dullcote and weather it.  I agree with @Chris333 and will probably apply some charcoal-colored paint for tar as patches and to hide a multitude of sins.  I'm considering taking a really sharp pencil and going at the joint between the roof and the chimneys to look like lead flashing.  I'm not crazy at how the roof caps came out, because, as expected, they came out darker than the rest of the roof.  But, it's growing on me, as it's highlighting the roof caps as trim.  It will have to do.

Thank God that's over with.  Whew!  I'll feel better once a coat of Dullcoat seals the decals down, though.

For all the effort on the decals, I think it looks fantastic.  After Dullcote, just some tarred flashing around all of the stuff coming out of the roof and you're done.  If nothing else this proves that a decal for roof material is plausible, even in a worst case scenario that this roof is!  A Yeoman's effort Mr. Foxx!  Imagine how cool a rusted steel roof image on a old farm shack will look?  Call me geeked.

He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

Quit while you're ahead. That looks excellent! Looking forward to the dullcoted version.

Now, how about tackling this one...

Are you planning on doing the shingles/tarpaper around the eves? Or keep the older shingles all the way down?

Either way very impressive work!

Thanks, guys!

@Ed Kapuscinski and @mu26aeh, you guys are on your own.  I'm out of the station-building business for awhile.  ;)  Seriously, I've got a bunch of other buildings that have been sitting unfinished on the layout for years, and I really need to get them finished, including the A&R enginehouse that I started before the SAL station probably a year-and-a-half ago.

@Lemosteam, I definitely plan to hit the flashed areas with something to represent flashing or tar.

@Missaberoad, I'm lazy, I'm just going to keep the shingles down to the drip edge.  There's no way that I'm going back in and risk damaging the roof again.  I've even bagged the idea of painting the drip edge red, because I can't mask off the roof without concern that the tape will pull the decal again.

I applied a second coat of Dullcote tonight- a nice fat coat.  The first coat last night didn't get the finish flat enough for my tastes, but it did bring up the color.  I don't know how to explain it with these colorblind eyes.  It seems richer, and the caps don't seem to stand out as much.  Hopefully, this will show in pictures.  I'll shoot a pic or two when the Dullcote dries.

Thanks again, all!

Excellent points and in all honesty it would be difficult to make it look as good as the roof looks now... didn't imagine it would look this good when it was the block of Styrofoam placeholder...

Great model, Cant wait to see it in place!

Can you use a drywall trowel or wide putty knife, using that as your straight edge held against the roof and shoot your color ?

Probably, but too risky for me.  The return on investment is going to be so small; I'm not even sure it would be noticed by many.  If I go forward with it, I'll paint a blank piece of decal and cut and apply strips.  We'll see.

This is after two coats of Dullcote.  It's still not flat enough, but weathering with some chalks and another coat of Dullcote should help:

At first glance, the shingles looked a little on the large side.  If you scale them out, what do you get?

In place on the layout, though, it looks really good.  Love the Love Bug in the parking lot... :D
