Not much to show, although I got a little bit of work done on a CP coil steel gondola project (that still has a ways to go yet) earlier this week, and today I've been working on laying some rail on the switching layout (which hasn't really been worked on in a while).

Some slow work on the Briggs M630 model and some research and prep for the CPR passenger GP9 project, plus some weathering of CPR paper box haulers but nothing photo worthy........

I am working on my new passenger yard.  I need to lay the ladder track from the main to the terminal tracks which are aleady laid.  I am two switches short so it looks like I will be putting in an order this weekend.

It went above -20 celsius for the first time in 7 days so I ventured out and bought some Atlas c55 turnouts and Model Railroad Planning 2012 (which is fantastic this year).

No work on Layout...

When to the Dallas TX Area Train show and visited number of home layout on tour with my N scale Buddies had a great time today.

I have lots to update on this week.  My apologies in advance for the monster post.

Thursday was ops evening.  15 hours (well 3 hours at 5:1) of TT&TO ops with rookie C&W dispatcher Anthony Craig at the helm.  All went well and the duplexing Digitrax radio system seemed to behave itself most of the time.  The rechargeable batteries do seem to burn out more quickly and when two operators are piloting a loaded ore train to the summit, with a pusher bringing up the rear, taking chances with radio reception doesn’t seem very wise.  Next session I am going to try nothing but disposables to see if the last remaining reception issues fall away.

Colin Dover with X8602 East, the eastbound Boundary wayfreight, at Farron summit.  He is doing some switching while waiting for 81, his westbound counter part.



At Nelson it is early afternoon so Brian Clogg and Brad Ellerman are likely making up #984 for Cranbrook.



On the modelling-side, it was bridge week.

First I finished the piers on the Lemon Creek bridge and painted and weathered both of them and the bridge.  It was my first try at using "the Salt technique" a la Tom Mann for simulating rust and I am happy with the result.







Meanwhile back at Kootenay River I made up all the abutments and piers from Chooch resin castings.  Boy was that a lot of cutting and filing.









And finally fellow Railwire poster Tim Horton was over this morning taking photos.  I took the opportunity to take some shots with my Point&Shoot at Shields, a siding away from where Tim was shooting.

MD - very nice...  my OP's sessions start in April... 

for me, it was a little benchwork today.  For those playing along, this will be an extension of the West end and will be the terminus for Westbound passenger traffic as well as origins for the Eastbounds headed to Metropolis via Virginia City/Sunnyside.  It will include 2 station tracks for Name trains (16 car minimum length) as well as 4 tracks for NKP Locals (5-6 car length). Since this is the end of the line, the two track main will double back on itself here through the wall (23 inch radius).

Construction continues as well as lighting/wiring and general "cleaning" of the layout.  Trackwork should commence in late February.

The F-units threw me last weekend... now that's some proper!!!

Use to see articles from time to time in the old Rail Classics magazine that showed the H16-44s and C-liners... makes me wish I was older so I could have visited Canada to see those beauties before they were retired!!!

Opposed piston power IS the CPR in British Columbia through the 50's 60's and early 70's......





I wish I had some of the beautiful custom CLC licenced FM units that Mark has.... I run quite a few C Liners and H 16-44's on my sub and love em.....
