The Housatonic Railroad in N Scale

Very interesting.  I hear the shop guys and road crews are great.  Management, not so much. 
I live about 50 minutes south of Canaan.

I was playing around with the cheap video cube camera again this weekend.  This is an (obviously) unedited video of a northbound trip over part of my N scale Housatonic Railroad.  The camera was on a lightweight flatcar, so there is some jerking as the metal low profile wheels go over the frogs on my code 55 track.  None of the buildings are planted yet with detailed scenery, but I am happy with the progress for now.  I'll take any suggestions for decent video editing software, as this is my first foray into that area.

This week, I made a little more progress in the area around Specialty Minerals, in Canaan.  I started adding some trees, a base layer of ground cover and buried some of the tracks at Specialty in asphalt. I have a lot of detail and scenery to add, but at least the foam is starting to go away.  Progress is progress.

Thanks.  Specialty Minerals is one of the larger customers for the Housatonic RR.  My goal is to model most of the primary customers and provide for the prototype car capacity for each.  The layout is basically a large switching layout with scenic breaks between towns.

One more shot of #3600 spotting some empties under the bulk loader at Specialty Minerals, in Canaan, CT.  I need to add details, paint the loading bins, finish the pavement, vegetation and make bulk limestone piles ready to be moved into the loading bins and crushed.  I have limestone from that actual prototype location that will work well for this scene.

Thank you.  My goal is to represent the actual industries and prototypical car capacities for each of the Housatonic's customers in CT and some from MA.  It is essentially a large N scale switching layout with some scenery thrown in for good measure.  N scale definitely helps me accomplish this.

Told them I was worried about real estate.  "How much can you sell your house for?" I was asked.  Told them maybe $80,000 (1983),  They scoffed, told me "there isn't a house in the county you can buy for that."  End of interview.
