I think with the pre-fab addition, go with a live siding.  Had you just had the original building, an abandoned spur would fit better.  Could still park an old boxcar at end.  A spur on east end of York, PA has an pair of old boxcars sitting on it, one a Ma & Pa (Maryland and Pennsylvania) for years, never moved.

Actually, just checked and both cars are Ma & Pa, pictures from 5/11 show they were still there.

Might be something nice to add. We had a former customer on NEGS in Concord that used a former B&M box car on an abandoned siding as a billboard and storage. We moved it in 2007 to its new home in Laconia where it was restored. It had been there since the mid '70's, and still held air with no issues when I added it to our northbound local.

Interesting idea of using old cars for storage and advertising. This is rather common, but rarely modeled.

I was able to get the new track in this week and also started working on some weathering. The weathering is far from done, I still need to add some oil Soft Mixing White to fade it.

Guys. I have been thinking of adding an additional 8' on either the left end or the right end of the layout and am looking for some input from the masses.



Basically it would be pretty much straight through river side running. No industries, some structures. At this point it is just in design phase. Reason for adding it onto the ends, and not extending the middle is the idea that if space does not allow at a show, or I do not care to bring it, the layout will be able to function with the original two 8' sections. Also if we end up in a temporary space around this time next year while we are house hunting, it can remain in the layouts 6x12 storage trailer if space does not allow for a full 3x24'.

The logical area for this add on would be on the "west" (left) end of the layout, as it would run along the Pemi on the next logical scene west of the layout.

It seems like a good idea, I can see why you like the river scene.  I wonder if a 24' long combined length won't be challenging to set up in some shows, or even at your home (or future home).  Could you make the third at a 90 degree angle.  Just a  thought.

A 90 degree angle on the 3rd module could definitely be done.

Mocking it up down stairs with some 1x8's and its up in the air if it is even worth it. Seems like 8' isn't enough to justify a scene like this. When you factor in hiding the turns, you end up with ~5' of reasonable scenery space.

A few hours of work this week. Added the loading dock to the yet un-named building. I also was able to set it in its final position and started working the scenery up to it. Still a lot of details to add to the building, including graffiti and whatnot.



From down the tracks. I still have the build the full length loading dock and roof for the Amoskeag Cold Storage.


Trying to decide if I want a wall mounted billboard on here... It angles off the building at about 23 degrees.



I'm now planning on what I want to use for a depot which will be in the lot across the tracks, shown below. Since this is a former NYC line I wanted to build a stone depot, much like the HH Richardson / Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge depots on the Boston & Albany... but I'm up in the air on how to go about building it. I don't want a large station, but not a small one either.

In regards to the extension, would expanding the curve enough to allow it to be part of the visible scene be an option?  That would give you more linear space for scenery, possibly in a shorter package.  If it's a river line, I think track with curvature would be more appropriate anyway.
