..where these are butt joints I'm thinking that I wont have that issue.

UM, what's wrong with liquid cement?  Tenax, Ambroid, etc.  Those evaporate almost instantly once you apply them to the joint.  My personal favorite is extra-thin CA glue - that stuff will instantly bond anything!

Nothing at all. I normally use Tenax...but I am out of all of those, including my huge can of MEK  and it will be a while until I can get more. Not a fan of extra thin CA. My favorite CA is the one Gorilla Glue makes.

I have used Pliobond many times years ago on styrene with no issues at all on my Proto:87 stuff. My favorite use for it was hand laying track.

Not to take this thread OT, but you might want to try brush-on Krazy Glue sometime. I use it so much now that I go through a bottle a month on average. It has not replaced everything else, but close to it. I still also use Gorilla Glue's CA when I need thick stuff, and MEK for styrene modeling when I need really fine control, but otherwise I'm using the brush-on CA.

This entire thread is OT :tommann:

For plastics Tenax and MEK are my normals. I use CA mostly for scenery related items as I have found sometimes that the extreme cold that the layout sits in it does not work well on plastics for structures and the bonds break.

Never seen the brush-on Krazy Glue,  will have to check that out.

While doing some ice climbing up in the 'Northeast Kingdom' of VT this past weekend, I found a prototype for Ian's Christmas trees. Seems even in the wild, things can look all nicely manicured and purdy...

It wasn't entirely the uniformity as much as the color in combo with the shape.

I've been waiting for a few structures to come for the east module but it seems that MBK is really slow on shipping out items the last week  :(  This has the resulting scenery coming to a halt as I can't really work more on it until I get the structures at least roughed in.

I decided to start getting back into weathering, seeing how I have lots of cars to do. I decided to try working with oil paints, my first time using this medium. I really liked how they worked and how the cars turned out. I was easily able to get what I wanted compared to when I used to work with acrylics. I was not used to the "setting" time of oils however! So now I have a bunch of cars hanging round waiting to dry so that I can finish them up.  Most of them are based off their car numbers, or similar series, photos on Railpictures.net or railcarphotos.

Quick grab shots for now, with some high res on the layout later.

Um Ian, shouldn't this info be posted . . .  on the Weathering forum?  There is nothing here showing any layout designs or layout building progress!  Some people just never learn!

Good job on the weathering BTW!

Hopefully I can get some high res shots of em. I think they look alright. I found my artist acrylics yesterday so in a few days I may try that so it cuts down on the drying time.

Started working on another structure that has rail access along the industrial track. There is still quite a bit of door rearrangements and what not to go on to this kit bash. I haven't decided on what to do with the lower level along the main line. All windows, build an add on using prefab metal, or model an abandoned siding with some bricked up loading doors. That's pretty much up in the air at this point.

And some mock up with the other structures.

This is the weathering I will be going for:

Added  the prefab add on. I need to add the loading dock and loading dock doors.

Little bit of inspiration from this building in Somerville, MA

Building painted, windows installed. Ready for back wall, loading dock under prefab and weathering.

I am iffy on if I want to keep the siding abandoned or have it live... I really could go either way. What say the peanut gallery?

Looks good. I vote for live, but maybe code 40 and really weedy or sunken into the grade. You could park some MOW cars along it  on the section before the building.
Just keep the option of having an occasional car spotted there.

Best wishes, Dave

I vote for live, but beat the crap out of it.

If you go abandoned, ya gotta include a stranded PC boxcar in there.
