Just added a custom shell to an older; first generation Atlas geep frome.... put power to it and I found the ultimate coffee grinder effects ! The silly thing growls, loud and average to poor pulling power (DC mode) I lubed the gears, checked wheel gauge etc.... no improvement.

Any ideas gentlemens and undecided ?

Any help appreciated.
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

I had a GP9 that ran extremely slow even at full throttle.

I disassembled and reassemble the drive and now its a smooth runner at low throttle settings.

Maybe the same technique will work for your jeep.

Mike, remove the inside bearing blocks. Ron Beardon had an article about this very problem. I think it was once posted to the Atlas forum or Trainboard.

When you say "first generation" atlas Geep, surely you don't mean the ancient red geared Roco drive?  There's not much you can do to improve that...

As a modification on the Beardonizing, I take the inner bearing block off, then ream it out a little.  I've found that you need to relieve whatever tension might be in there, but you still need it in place as a spacer to keep the worm gear stable.

It could also be something as simple as the motor not being seated in its housing all the way.  Any little shift in the drive line will make problems.
