The cars ran into the 2000s so you can still get one!  8)

I see on your website you have a modern version. I'm totally in for a couple of these pimp rides!  I can't seem to find where to reserve one?

(Edited: Nevermind, looks like per your note, reservations will start in Jan)

Correct - short reservation period before the models invade the North American continent in February.  Now that the model is tooled and active, all the releases will be announced about six weeks or so before they are scheduled to appear.  I'm trying to avoid contributing to the reservations-for-all-eternity syndrome that everyone hates.

Reserve with your local hobby pusher, or with one of the online dealers.

A word of advice to all - do not hesitate on the schemes you want.  The demand is very high and greater than I anticipated given the price point I was forced to set.

Totally hot, thanks for sharing, and thanks for the heads-up regarding demand.  I will make sure my LHS has my order for the LV cars in hand!

Any suggestions on which dealers are accepting reservations? I checked FRT, MBK, and N Scale Supply and can't find them.

A quick question. The Penny car looks like it has a Return When Empty sign. Where these cars in dedicated service? This is far from a deal-breaker for me. Just curious. This looks like a great car and I plan on picking up 3 or 4 of these.

Best wishes and Merry Christmas,
Dave

Gotta have several of these myself.  I can think of at least 5 different Pennsy color varieties.  Will probably get a couple PC ones as well.

Reservations don't start until January 3.  FRT and MBK carry ESM products, NSS doesn't.

The routing instructions on PRR 112823 in December 1970 were WHEN EMPTY RETURN TO PRR PITTSBURGH PA.  The routing instructions on the model are whatever was on the real car at the time it was photographed.  The return-to's for the first eight cars are:

222101 - none
222102 - Pittsburgh PA
220103 - none
220104 - none
220105 - none
222201 - Milwaukee WI
222202 - Ithica NY
222203 - Oak Island NJ

I agree that there are a number of data elements that would be helpful to know, especially with these models being decorated so specific to the prototype.  Unfortunately, there is only so much room on the box inserts and on the announcement sheets that it's necessary to pick and choose.  I figured knowing the service date and the date of the reference photograph were the two most important pieces of secondary information to help modelers decide which of the X58 models will fit into their respective layout timeframes.  The AAR designation probably is the next most important information, and I'll see if we can include that in the literature in future releases.  Since the cars ventured all across North America, the routing-when-empty information isn't as critical.

Gotta have several of these myself.  I can think of at least 5 different Pennsy color varieties.  Will probably get a couple PC ones as well.

The Pennsy cars were all painted the same color, but there were a plethora of deco variations.  The body color altered over time due to dirt and age, and ESM will reflect that in some of the 1970s/80s/90s versions of the PRR cars down the road.

The current plan is to have PRR cars in every release.  Artwork has been completed for 18 PRR cars, with no two being alike.

Not sure what the PRR had in mind for these in Milwaukee, but I am almost certain that it wasn't for dedicated beer loading. Any PRR experts out there know what these were used for? I will probably use them in auto part or food service.

Thanks for the info Bryan. Looks like a great car.

Best wishes, Dave

There were cars marked with LD, DFB and SL.  Also plain cars with just the keystone.  Last one I can think of are the LD cars which had an unpainted aluminum door.

I guess this car had dodged the ACF label at this point (?).

Dave - FYI ESM#222201 is the first Lehigh Valley car, LV 7113

Yep, as I said, deco variations.  Same paint scheme though.  Any unpainted doors are replacement doors installed in a post-PRR era.

No ACI plates were on PRR 112823 in 1970.  One of the five Pennsy cars in this release has an ACI plate.

I think I figured out why I can't see the pictures.... I'm running iOS on an iPad, but you've setup redirection for mobile based browsers. Would be nice if there was a link to the non-mobile site too.

I wanna see the pretty pictures! :x
