So are the roof stampings on the 60' cars right to give the 40' PS cars the proper flat roof? I have both and am thinking, rather than unload the 60-footers (which I got real cheap), just turn them into sacrificial lambs for the 40-footers.

I think this has been asked already, but is there a photo resource that shows what roads got flat roofs and which peak roofs on the 40-footers?

That's my thinking as well.  You have both handy - to the stampings match?  Although, I guess we can't go by what is on the 40' model if the roof is entirely incorrect to begin with.

I wouldn't sacrifice the 60' decorated cars though.  I'd unload them on eBay or NSE, and then take the winnings and buy undecorated 60' bodies directly from MTL.

The prototypes do sit higher than I remembered.

Pretty sure no new 40' high cube was built with a peaked roof... 40' rebuilds yes (a la SP). 

None of the P-S cars were (not that there were many to begin with... 122 on 5 lots... CB&Q, DRGW, MILW, NP and IC)

None of the PC&F cars were (SP/SSW B-70-36)

None of the Maxon cars were (C&NW)

None of the Transco cars were (ATSF)

None of UPs homebuilt classes were...

Spent a good portion of the last week dragging some MTL 60 footers, along with a few Atlas PS 60' cars down to the level of the Bluford & Trainworx 85's for my Ford Fast freight to run on our Modutrak New Years day get together. Was a little worried about wobble as the bolsters on the MTL's got massively filed dow, much less so the Atlas, but no more wobble than the untouched cars, Whew!

and finally, a $5 MDC car next to the reference Atlas ACF car, went overboard on the MDC & had to use  an MTL washer to lift it just a bit

very messy work, but very worth it! Thanks for the insights & the encouragement. Now I need to weather the heck out of the whole train!
