Kraft Dinner is a food group  :D

Truer words were never spoken.

I've six boxes at home and when the need strikes, I kick back with Morning Sun book and a bowl of KD drowning in Ketchup. I wouldn't call it cheese sauce, since it is a powder... more like dehydrated awesomeness!

Well, we consumed three boxes of KD here this weekend.  I managed to build a first mock up of my paper mill from foam board.  Staged it with some stacks and containers to make it look a little better.  There is a missing layer of pink foam on the layout, and the tracks in the foreground will be hidden.

After a couple of grueling weeks at work I'm finally back in ACME Labs.... Finished the last tidbits on the Caboose of Morale Destruction then sent her off to the paintshop. Once I get her decaled and hit with some flat finish should clean up the orange peel effect on the red paint.

I deviated from the plans by breaking the step into individual stairs, then proceeded to fold them, not at the prescribed fold but where they should've been folded for prototypical appearance. I also used Skipgears trick for the inside over the top grabs. I threw some MT 905's on it with BLMA brake hose, lastly I plopped her on some BLMA trucks to get the ride height down considering I "raised" the steps.

After taking a few months off, I finally made time to work on the mountainous side of my layout.  Here is what I started with Saturday morning:

By Sunday afternoon, this is what I have:

This weekend has really gotten me fired up to put more time and effort into my layout.  I hope to present more updates next weekend.

Laid more benchwork in the basement (Sunnyside) whist watching the Ravens beat the Colts.  1 more piece to go (next weekend) and then destruction of Virginia City begins.  That will entail busting the east end of the layout and then reconstruction elevations and inclines.  I should be in good shape to have the Lowest Bidders (aka East Side Gandy Dancers represent) stop by in Mid January.

Meanwhile, electrical work continues as well with good success.  Loconet is much more efficient  :-X as is the booster

    • Trying to model the BCR Fort St John BC (again)...while living in Australia (what could possibly go wrong?)

While most of November was a near total write-off for modelling, December has been quite productive.  I am very close to completion of all the upper deck benchwork modules, Front fascia and lighting valances need to be installed on the first three sections.  The fourth is awaiting its backdrop and light supports.

Spent the day whipping this up.  Got some foam panels from the ReStore, plus a couple of doors.  I used a 24 and an 18" slab combined to get a 42" x 80" table in the dining room.  Ideal for a decent loop of HO track, also scavenged from the white elephant table at the Delmarva Club.  Most of it is Nickel Silver, but there's a couple of slices of brass rail in there so I can get nostalgic about cussing at HO trains when they stall.

Ceramic holiday buildings will suffice this year, but Andy and I will be adding some snowy white landscape and other goodies over the next week or so.

We understand that Santa likes to run trains when he stops on the roof here.

This part IS modeling... the NCR shelf met up with some craft paint, and now it's not glowing white any more. Well, 75% of it isn't, anyway.

No pics because I left my camera at work.
Last weekend I built the shelf for my trial run before the Richmond Pacific gets built.  I realized I need to brush up on some skills before the main event so decided to build a 1x6.5 foot shelf using Lance Mandheim's "The beginner trackplan.

All the track is laid and wired.  Lighting is in.  Running a few trains to make sure the track is in good shape before painting it.  Theme is modern industrial switching with a UP interchange.

Playing with some N scale size printouts of the Everette Street Depot area...  Public Service Building, USPO Annex, and REA Building are lasercut acrylic assemblies under construction.

Nice Mike, my kind of modeling.

I thought I had posted but I must not have hit the button.

All of my modeling time has been spent figuring out how to construct a new roof for my baggage car.  After several less-than-stellar attempts with styrene, I broke out the router table.

I'm not sure if it's too tall and there's still some fitting and shaping to do.  I'm also not sure how finish it off.  Right now I'm leaning towards covering it with thin paper strips.

Well, it's barely modeling, but it's all I've got, so I'm going to claim credit for it.  I'm within sight of the finish line on my garage renovations: all that remains is to finish painting half of the ceiling, which first requires moving tons of stuff from one half of the room to the other...  (painting a ceiling is such a literal pain in the neck).

Here are a few progress shots.  First the clean half of the room, which is finished (except for painting the door, which awaits warmer weather):

and a shot down one of the long walls towards the messy half:

The wood stringers are going to support the bench work (along with a small number of free-standing legs), so I officially declare that construction of Tehachapi, BC has begun.

It's been a long haul.  It was 2 years ago this week that I first came to Vancouver to interview for my current job.  That's when I halted plans for Tehachapi, MD.  It was almost a year ago that we actually moved, and it was a bit over 6 months ago that we bought a house with layout space. Finally things are rolling again.  Best yet, the fall term just ended and December is shaping up to be a good month to make some serious progress.  And while the temps dip below freezing tonight, the garage is nice and warm.  :)

Nice, a blank sky blue canvas emerges!  The question is, have you discovered Kraft Dinner?

Despite being out on vacation since Tuesday afternoon, no modeling here for very justifiable reasons:

Congratulations on your healthy new addition!  Good luck on finding time for Railroadin'.  When you learn the secret, please let me know ;)

Strange that the ad that showed up below your post was one for "Medical quality protein", that apparently now comes in a "cheese sauce" flavor.  And the photo shows it on mac and cheese.  Bizarre...
