I ordered some of the 40' UPS trailers and cant wait to get them as they look pretty sweet. What I really need are the pup trailers so I hope the issue with those works out.
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

The 40-footers don't feature the company name or graphics, so there are no trademarks to be concerned with.

Should be easy enough to get some crisp period-specific UPS graphics, scale them down and output them through a high-rez color laser printer onto decal film.

OK, so Trainworx is actually printing UPS text/graphics on the pups?   I figured they'd just do the old, "leave off the relevant stuff to be added later" trick.

As far as "easy enough", well if it's that easy to find the correct font and size can you provide me a link?  Short of trying to peel fonts via photoshop I've never had very good luck finding font/size matches for decals I'm trying to make.  Granted I don't have the tools some of you have.   I guess I feel more comfortable having someone that does this often and can do it efficiently and correctly with the right tools. And given that it will probably be a high-demand item, should be worthwhile to print a couple of sheets worth.

And, couldn't Trainworx at least paint them the correct color and put the basic dim data on them like on the 40's?   Yes, I can imagine UPS being so anal as to threaten litigation over even that much likeness...so I'm here saying "If by some chance some pup trailers accidentally end up being painted and/or lettered along with the 40's, I will offer my recycling services and pay the "shipping charges".  8)   How's that?

"Breakin'thelaw, breakin'thelaw!!!!"   :scared:

EDIT:   Just a disclaimer...I'm not trying to bust Trainworx chops on this at all.   I'll figure it out even though I've had trouble finding both correct paint and decals for the resin UPS pups I've had for 5 years now.  But the 40's look so good, it's hard to think of interjecting my poor modeling skills into the equation.

True UPS story...

About 10 years ago I was in their Saddle River, NJ data center to discuss mobile/wireless data.  It was 3pm and we went to the cafeteria to get coffee. There was a sign "Nothing Served Unless It's On a Tray".   Of course I assumed that meant food.  They would not sell me a coffee unless I went back and got a tray to put it on.

Most anal company ever, but it's their adherance to strictly studied and enforced industrial engineering principles that they credit with their success.....

They certainly have their own "culture".

But as you say, there is a method to their madness.

Comparing their cost of labor as a percentage of expenses to the those of the Post Office is a real eye-opener.

I wouldn't get too worked up about the 28' drop frames.

I haven't seen any announcement from Trainworx about them being available for orders and apart from MBK, none of the other big e-tailers have had them in stock or announced as pre-orders.

I suspect Trainworx put the undecs available for release while the licensing issue gets sorted and MBK grabbed some with the other trailer types.

AFAIK, Trainworx hasn't announced any details as far as decorated options on these pups - ie, fully decorated, painted/unlettered or with/without decals.

At least I hope that is the case.... otherwise I've missed out  :scared:

The undec trailers include side doors and two different sets of wheels. It looks like you will need to cut chunks out of the side to install the doors.

Or just wait for the decorated side door trailers in a couple of months.

I think I'll go Bryan's route.  I'm curious though if they will eventually get to Northern Pacific schemes.

I'm pretty sure Mark, the way you have the pictures displayed is correct in that the oldest scheme is on top through more recent at the bottom.
Where's Nate?  He'd know, or Richie.

Yeah Brian that's what I was thinking - seeing them in the store I began to covet one of the UP trailers ...  :P

Here's a few pix of one of my N&W ones:

I'm not sure about "best trailers ever" - take a look at those tires. Seems a bit too much of a gap between the tires, or I may be having "faulty memories" here. ;) Will have to compare to the limited amount of photos that I have, but overall they look great! Interesting touch on the mud flaps - "N&W TOFC".

I also picked up an "early" UPS trailer, though now I'm a bit confused - should these have the old UPS logo on them or were they painted as Trainworx delivered them?

UPS didn't have the logo on the 40' trailers, which I believe is what allowed Trainworx to be paint the trailers like they did.  UPS can be a bear to work with from a TM perspective, although certain manufacturers have seemed to crack the code.  There are some pictures on the website below:

For info on painting the pups:

http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,1097138

Thanks for the link.   I think I'd seen this before but had been attempting to find a spray can that was close enough.  (see relevant post about quiet airbrush compressor...lol)

Hope nobody thought I was complaining about this at all....just mostly curious about the UPS licensing deal.   I have no problem buying undec trailers...since I already have just not quite that nice.
