So this is what I needed code 40 rail for:

You may recognize the trackplan ;)  But I did reverse it and will try to make it my own. It's Z scale and since it was based on a N scale 36x80" door, mine is 26x58"

Still need rail to finish up the sidings, but both mainlines are now running.

What happened to the Erie terminal in N?!???
Been waiting to see updates on that one, dude!

What's the purpose of this layout (besides showing off hand-laying skillz in Z ;) ) -- I mean, what do the trains do here?
Will there be a scenic divider?
Very curious about the one and only crossover, too.
How are you holding the points on the turnouts in Z?  Bent staple?

You're work is always fab, so this will be fun to see come to life.
Would love to see the Harbor Terminal progress, too ;)

You'll get used to this, it's standard operating practice for Chris!   ;)

He likes benchwork and trackwork, but not so much scenery... so if the layout is larger than 1 sq ft he loses interest in finishing.

And yet, it's still more modeling than some of us get done.    :P

Al

LOL...!

Hey Chris, I don't see any second crossover giving you some sort of run-around capability.

With outfit cars #1 and #2 reassembled and basically ready for details, I devoted this past week's hobby time to building the replacement sides for car #3:

The BCR removed the left side door and plated in the opening, and added two windows each side - with rubber gaskets (grrr).  There is some more door hardware to be installed (door tracks, rods, stops, etc.) but I will do that after reassembling the car.

Wow. That is beautiful.

What he said.

It just goes in circles. I wanted to model a Erie tower in Z and that spot on Daves layout looks like a junction so I went with it. So that cross over is more to make it look busy for me. I didn't add the cross over on the other side, wanted more of a country area over there. The turnouts have a slide switch under them with a wire going up to the throw bar, frogs are powered.

Harbor layout will see the light of day again.

Dave, Thanks for the inspiration. You can be the mayor of this little town (soon as DKS makes the kits).

Scott,

Sweet!  Nicely detailed units.  Looks like a great start on the paint.. Look forward to next week's update!

I have a new airbrush and spray booth, so some projects are moving forward.  All CN units (left to right): SD50, C44-9 (2500 series), SD60 and GP40.    EMD units will be zebras, and GE will be North American scheme.   Black paint is next and I have a C44-9 Hamersley cab unit on deck.

Thank you,
Mike DeBerg

Nah, he does it with mirrors................ :D

Tim's got a touch, that's for sure.......pity he spends his days teaching Canada's youth and imparting musical knowledge to them to boot; think of what he could accomplish ! LOL

Nice work pal !
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Havn't done jack for 3 weeks, sinus infection blah blah blah. Did go to a small open house in Selkirk MB for awhile. It took longer for us to get there then we stayed...

I wasn't expecting to like MR's new project layout as much as I do, but I want to build a copy after seeing it in person at Trainfest.  It's a slick little layout that could shrink to Z as well.  Scaling down to Z puts it at 19"x38", but it seems to work a little better at 24"x48" to get 1" track spacing in the yard per the PDF track plan from the MR site.

And since Micro-Tards are releasing copies of the Full Throttle 33' hoppers in Z , hoppers are bound to be plentiful for a coal layout.  It's the baby-trainmasters that might be difficult.

Forgot to say something about it sunday, But I revisited "Project:Hot mess" again, totally rebuilding it, and it's better than the last, Now I can get short wheelbased steamers though the inside route without derailing, and if I crawl it, I can get the GS4 and some of my longer locos to creep though it, but anything above a creep, forgetaboutit.......
I seem to be getting better and better at this the more times I do it. I'm thinking I might try one more time using the larger radi I am using now as the inside and go with the next radi larger for the outside, see if that works......

Side note, I am REALLY enjoying building this stuff, and I am seriously considering hand laying a small layout, using a track plan I have been playing with in Unitrack.......am I insane?
