This was "clean up old half done project week"......

First up; a half decaled BN Airslide...



Added some northwestern grime and she's coupled to my CNW Airslide and earning a living...

Next up; a Kaslo CPR van kit. I started this years ago, screwed it up and put it away.....Improved modeling skills;  well; somewhat anyway) allowed me to fix her up....



Here she is on a run by with another van....



Finally; a GN BSB extended cupola caboose. I weathered this before i knew that black paint wasn't considered weathering... 99% alchol stripped the "mistakes" off and we "had at her"... added grabs, a walkway (Atlas didn't use the walk way type but my reference photo's of her during GN service show one so...) railings, some end treatments and FVM wheels.... and a "guy"....

.. and just to show that mistakes are still a pass time of mine, you'll love the marker lights at the wrong @#$@! end of the caboose........ ......this has been corrected.....

This week's modelling activities were limited to assembly of a few bulldozer kits.  The larger one is a relatively new offering from Railway Express Miniatures and is destined for one of the log sorts on my layout; the smaller ones are from Dmented and will be assigned to the Maintenance Of Way Department.

Last weekend I was able to largely complete the helix and installed the exit ramp



This week I finished decalling a number of custom box car shell kitbash projects.  None are exact replicas but they will go a long way to building the fleet.  A few touch-ups and weathering before installing trucks and couplers.

Those Kaslo vans build up into very nice looking kits.  I see them regularly on Mark and Steve's layouts.  Well done.


Andy:

Good progress on the helix.  Have you given thought as to what you will eventually have on top?  I am guessing that it will have to be a piece of removable scenery as it does not look like you will be able to get inside from underneath.  There should be room for a nice wheat filed scene somewhere around Baldonnell with Highway 97 cutting across and diving underneath the railway.

I want to maintain easy access to the helix (no electronic occupancy detectors for me) so a lightweight removable field scene is a good option.   Alaska Hwy will curve around the outside of the helix enclosure, curving to the right as it passes under the rail bridge..  just like the prototype

Progress on my R190 build for the N Scale Vehicle Association build off.


Cab stripped, drilled for roatating beacon.




New 12' dump bed scratch built.


Plow yoke.


Plow blade reinforcment. This still needs a lot more work.




Test fitting the major parts together.


Here is a close up of the chain we talked about in another thread. The top chain is the flexible bead needle. I added a few more twists to create the middle chain. It measures only .0014" wide. The bottom chain is the bead wire twisted like the needles. This measures .0015"

Started painting one of the White Tower models in prep for the product video.  An undercoat of black paint on the interior to kill the translucent quality before the top coat of gloss white.  Also started painting the interior by hand.  The "fog white" effect is from leaving the model in a wax dissolving agent for too long.



Man, that clock is tiny.  I don't think it's possible to paint the face details so I'm leaving it white.  It will be hard enough to paint the frame black.  I'm thinking I should install a micro LED so the interior can be seen in the video but we'll see.

Got some more done on our summer (now fall) shunting shelf project.

Doolittle Freight:



And at the other end of the left section, got some photo & backdrop flat buildings, fence, gravel, grass, bushes & small trees:





The right section, being 1" more narrow, just clears the smokestack, but that's why we can't have any sceney pop out more than 3/4".
The back hinges will be covered with a removeable buidling / powerplant, the front hinges with smaller oil tanks.
