Over at MB Klein in new products....  Anyone see them?

Did MR really have single door cars like this - I've only seen DD cars....

I don't know.

But I was surprised to see that the doors can open on these:

yeah . . . and clumily at that . . . on the otherhand, the photos do look like a good, basic cart  that can be upgraded easily.

Anyone know if they plan an UNDEC?

This model doesn't interest me.  I'm waiting for the other three models to be released.  Hopefully this indicates their release is imminent.

No interest for me either. The other cars might be more interesting to me, and I also look forward to seeing them.

Seriously stick with this one:

http://www.atlastrainman.com/NFreight/tmn506boxcar.htm

The Bachman car is basically the same car but with cruder doors and a massively wrong roof. These ACF cars didn't have X-panels.

They just took Athearn's crappy old 1980s tooling "Railbox" boxcar and reproduced it including all of the errors....

Could have at least done a dodgy job on something that wasn't already available...

Found one listed on MB Klein's website. The car number is "MR 2197"

Reality check:
MR 2000-2399, blt. FMC 1977. Double door.

Massive foobie.

Moving down the line,

http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/PhotoDetails.asp?ShowDESC=N&ProductCode=BAC-19653
ORER has MNJ 120600-120734, 5277 cuft capy. Builder unknown but I've NEVER yet seen any cars in the NRUC pool built by ACF. They're mostly build by SIECO/Evans/USRE or Berwick, or kits supplied by Evans & Berwick and built by Golden Tye, Pickens or St Lawrence shops.

Could be wrong, but I've never seen a photo of any secondhand or original NRUC car built by ACF, ever.

http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/PhotoDetails.asp?ShowDESC=N&ProductCode=BAC-19654
ORER lists PW 101-300, 5347 cuft capy.... gee that sounds a lot like the FVM FMC car...
PW 554-703, identical listed dimensions, definately FMC:
http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=pw571&o=pw

PW 301-400 is 5077 cuft and several builders built to that size, so not sure about that series, but even if it is an ACF car (sorta) matching the Bachman car (WRONG ROOF!) the number series is all wrong.

Lets, see, what next...

http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/PhotoDetails.asp?ShowDESC=N&ProductCode=BAC-19655
more FMC cars: http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=cirr90100&o=cirr (repaint but same series)
And that white lettering on the light grey background doesn't seem too likely based on these other contemporary CIRR cars, all with black lettering:

BN is our most likely candidate, they do have ACF cars, but nope. Here's a nice trio of cars bracketing the model's road number. All within 10 car numbers of each other. All Evans/USRE cars.

First they hose the model and then not put a single appropriate road name or number on it for the model it's supposed to represent...

Figures.

Not my era, and obviously another Bachmann foob-fest, but there will be tons of these rolling around on an N trak module near you.  Opening doors, clickity clack wheels and pretty colors will all generate tons of sales... not to mention of street price under $15.

I again sympathize with those clamoring for more accuracy, but decrying Bachmann for sticking to its own successful business model is akin to shouting down a hole.   It appears that the Atlas car is a better bargain as well as more accurate.  But I doubt Atlas does the volume of business Bachmann does, and I'm sure we can look forward to these cars being pooped out in quantity for years to come.  It's just how Bachmann does things.

Thoughts on changing the title and/or editing the thread to represent the reason for it moving to the "Best Off" bin. The research info will not be easily found with this thread title.

Just my opinion.
Best wishes, Dave

Noticed Botchmann also has this car in Railbox paint, didn't see that one earlier.

The car number is correct for a 1979-built series of ACF cars, so at least they got that right on at least _one_ of the cars.

Of course the roof is still wrong for the model.

And the door is YELLOW. Doors on Railbox cars were never yellow. The doors were BLACK.

Can't they do one thing at least half right?

They DID get the door black on the production version BUT they got the slogan blue instead of black:

There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away
