Steam loco stack raw source maybe

This has always been annoying . So I thought maybe plastic golf tee shafts might be a good source for small tapered plastic . Just ordered these and I will give dimensions when they get here .

Good deal! That's thinking outside of the box!

Good thinking. However... my concern would be that they're made of polyethylene or some other hard-to-bond plastic.

Great stuff! I've been looking for a source for ventilators for my ships. Wouldn't wooden tees also work?

They would , but if you try to thin wall the stack opening there is a better chance of breakage .

So Richie,
How'd your experiment go?

So Richie,
How'd your experiment go?

Just got them 2 days ago . The plastic as David Smith feared is a bit waxy but for a stack the Krazy Glue on a sanded surface holds good enough , but would shy away from it as a stressed structural joint . There is bore hole .155 diam and 1.23 deep in the long one , 1.31 in the med one , and .735 in the short one . My Dremel lost its lowest 10 % of its speed range years ago so using it as a lathe in this waxy-ish plastic results in 50/50 melt/cut . I did a UP large Sweeney stack from the med one about 2/3s down from the top with so so results . I will probably do more experimenting with these , but it isn't ideal . Sleeving together the Plastruct tubes and turning them on a Dremel probably results in the best product though . Anyhow here are the figures I said I would post .

You know, once you've got them, you could also cast copies of the things in a medium that's easier to work with, like resin.

Jason

I do , an old 14 inch armature lathe , note the N scale boxcar on top . A bit overkill for an N scale stack .
